Good evening fellow devs both snr, junior and up and coming dev. I hope you are all doing well?
I currently use a windows 10 OS on my system but I want to use Linux(understand and be knowledgeable about it) but still want to keep my current OS. I have researched for the two but I still want more input from you guys especially from the experienced ones among you. Which of the option should I opt for and why also what are the drawbacks?

PS: I use an 8GB RAM laptop. Thanks.

Tricky is Secure Boot is enabled in the UEFI/BIOS.

I'd say OP should start with WSL

I will advice strongly you use Windows subsystem for Linux known as wsl. With it you can virtually anything you want on a Linux OS. It does not get in the way of your Microsoft Windows. It easy to use. You can develop apps with it. You can do lots of stuff with wsl. You can use different Linux distributions on your Windows machine once you download wsl.
Thank me later on this.

Thank you for your input, the reason why I want to embark on this is because of my web dev training via the ODIN project and they don't support WSL. I don't know how to go about it now.

VM with VirtualBox then. It's a softer intro to Linux.

This was the reason I left ODIN project, I use windows and their requirement was Linux/Mac

I do all my Linux stuff on AWS . Very risky, it's better you even pay for virtual machine than using ec2 instance.

Once you exceed your usage on AWS they deduct some dollars from your accountgrin

Linux all the way, it eats way less ram than Windows , but difficult to master though.

Sir, the idea of a dual boot is a bad idea, I tried it some years past and there became a problem with the Linux boot image and it hang the system, I had no choice but to re-image the whole system, lost all my files, in the case of a VM, you would only lose the VM image, which you can always be restored from a backup from the vm directory.
