Good afternoon my people.. The issue of theft in most of our sites these days is becoming alarming. We have a project in Abuja and the installation of first fix started last year August. The second fix was completed early December,. We are meant to start the final stage yesterday but on getting to site all cables were stolen including the load cables to the distribution .

Now who is responsible for this act? After we completed the second fix which is the cabling in early December 2021, POP contractors came and left, Tiler came and left, also the Aluminium guys also came and left . But my concern is that the builder couldn't fish out who could have done this .. Cables of about 2million naira got stolen on site and we have builder supervising the project regularly on site.

My concern is that all the cables removed would be sold as scrap maximum 30k because there was no straight l length in those cables ..

Are we going to blame government for this because of lack of job(an idle hand is a devil workshop )

My client said the it can't be tiler and POP guys because they are Togolese
The Aluminium contactor is a Nigerian and he stays more than POP and tilers on site. Who are we going to hold responsible for this act.

We got to Abuja yesterday hoping that the final fix will be completed in the next 8days.

we as Nigerians should put security in mind when on any dealings.could cabling be left as the last thing to do on the project?on my build.I'm making sure every window and door plus burglary proof is fitted even paintnt b4 cables go in ot anything that could be stollen go in.

Intruders can gain entrance from other sides of the compound not in view from the windows of the security house na, so your logic doesn't really add up. Your security man will also not be looking out of his windows 247 and the windows cannot even offer a view all round the perimeter of the compound, so that is even worse than a down time for CCTV. If I'm not mistaken, I believe CCTV can be linked to more than one monitor, including smart phones, so I see no reason why the security house cannot have a monitor as well. And you can always back up your CCTV with alternative power, to reduce down time.

As for having his windows closed, well except he has A/C in there, I don't see how your security man can stay in there with the windows closed all the time, without any ventilation. I'm pretty sure most peeps without an A/C in their houses do keep their windows open most of the time and this is usually the case with most security houses. I know someone that was shot (assassinated) close up, through his window, while he was asleep.

There are upscale neighborhoods in Nigeria.

I cannot claim to have visited all, but the few I have I have not seen good lighting arrangements.

Our lighting here more or less betrays the fact that lighting professionals aren't involved in the placement/arrangements - and that a lot of thought has not been put into this aspect of the building plan.

Your reasons make sense, but my point is a lot more is spent on other areas of the structure than would have been spent on these kinds of lighting.

So I tend to think it has to do with what the building professionals here recommend or suggest.

When night falls the tens to hundreds of millions spent go dark as well.

If you share some of those arrangements, I am currently on the lookout for ideas to copy

On more thing, given the marked preference for full length none-see-through fences, if those lighting arrangements are within the compound no one except visitors and the owners of the house would see them.

Whistle blowers cannot be trusted too. We just need to be extra vigilant.

Those cameras wont work properly, by putting a Sim car into it then you have turned it into a mobile phone, so will need more than the power of a mobile phone for it to work cos of the Cameras, I can see the Chinese making these for Africa but wont fly i n the west

They already have them in the West. Google reolink. It does not become a mobile phone. There are multiple 4g devices that just require a 4g sim to work.

Example - Your modem is not a mobile phone.

For akala , don’t have private security, only have one mai guard my builder put there from beginning , no theft recorded so far , except I was not briefed , or is anything missing so far tope ? although my builder has a solar powered Cctv , someone mentioned this

This should be a wake up call for all honest contractors and artisans. You all need to start figuring out how to protect yourselves against false accusations.
Somebody might be wrongly accused and made to pay for stuff he has no idea about, especially if they had worked in the site during the period.

This is very true.

One of the popular builders on here called me once from the east coast once. Unfortunately I was also on a business trip else I would have flown him out to the west coast so we can visit my brothers architectural firm and go out to spend time on construction sites. I believe he would have even further honed his skills back home.

If your focus is just about the entrance, which shouldn't be IMO, then a see-through gate and fence rails should do the trick na, rather than making the security post a weak spot by attaching it to your fence.

Ask yourself this question...if you couldn't have a security post, would you feel more secure by attaching your house to your fence, just so you could have a view of your street? I don't think so.

If your security man can be gotten to easily, then your security is already compromised from the get go.

As for the private CCTV monitoring of your security man, while he also has access to CCTV feeds, I believe the CCTV experts can always come up with a solution. All you have to do sometimes is let them know exactly what you want.

You only share some camera view with the security post which are basically external views/ points of entry n access road while the occupants will have access to all cameras.
We have done this for clients extensively, topsy and the electrical men/guru can expantiate further

Each IP camera has an IP address. So it’s a really simple matter to assign what IP address any device can see. The SecGuard only needs to see the perimeter cameras in my setup,

Also a simple UPS will provide backup power.

CCTV is very important. Every home should have at least a four channel system.
