A bit confused about the newspaper publication because this is name rearrangement not change of name.
that is the requirement, you can see one of the bullet points there states rearrangement of names. If you were formerly known on first name basis as Moses and now want to go by your middle name Abraham, it is not same name. Moses is not Abraham. Follow the link and see the requiremnts online.

I didn't have the enthusiasm to write this, but I'd be an ingrate if I didn't, as reading how others did theirs went a long way during my capturing process. I scheduled for capturing on 6th June, 9am (they don't follow the time, only the date). Team DIY. The following events took place at Passport Office, Alausa, Lagos;

1. I got into the passport office premises around 9am. I was yet to sign my guarantor's form and I read on here you can do it for N500. I don't know where, but I was armed with the price. I asked around and got offers for 3k, 2k, and 1.5k. I went on to a photocopy shop (three houses from the passport office, beside LASRA) and got it for N1,000. I'm sure if I knew the office of the notary person, I'd have gotten it for less because it was collected from me and taken elsewhere by an attendant.

2. I waited till 10am as the lawyer wasn't around when I got there. When I left, I headed into the passport office (nose mask isn't a must, don't be cajoled to buy one in case you didn't come with one, I'd advise you to go with one though) around 10.20am and submitted my "Application Slip" as requested by the front desk SERVICOM attendant on the right side of the hall entrance. Go straight to them, don't mind the queue outside, go straight inside on your right, you'd see them there.

3. The document was collected and I was told to go wait outside. After about an hour, I went in to ask them what's up, and I was told my name had been called (this is absurd, no names were called as I was waiting outside). My slip was returned and I was told to look at the info behind them to arrange my documents. I was told to put it in a file, that I can get it outside. I went outside and got a pink file for N500 and a tag (you only need one, the guy that sold it to me said I needed two, it costs N50 each).

4. After my docs had been arranged, I was directed to go to the ACI's office where they will be checked by a senior officer. Na here I kon jam agbako! S/he requested the original of my birth certificate which I don't have, I had been using a photocopy from the past as an original. This is my bad, s/he didn't accept it and said s/he can't do anything about it, say s/he no fit sign am except s/he sees the original or an affidavit to back the photocopy.

5. I went back to the woman I used to sign my guarantor's form and I was billed N2,000 for Age Declaration affidavit which was ready in less than 30mins and I dashed back to the officer in the ACI's office. S/he said I was too fast! Because s/he said what I needed doesn't mean I should get it done immediately (wonderful!). S/he told me to go wait outside and threatened to seize my documents if I persisted. I jejely went outside and sat for over an hour.

6. I went back in to check on the officer, explained that I didn't mean to be rude, and s/he told me to go think, say if I don think finish, make I show back. I didn't leave because I knew what s/he meant. To skip details, I added 2k cash to my file and handed it over. S/he codedly slipped the 2k into the drawer, went on to sign my docs and I was sent back to the SERVICOM guys in front where I was told to go sit for capturing. By this time, it was 4.29pm already.

7. I captured and left the premises around 5.37pm, collection date on slip 08/07. Let's keep our fingers crossed. When I tracked at night, my passport production was in progress.

PS: to avoid hiccups for DIY, please go with your original documents or swear affidavits beforehand to support the ones (photocopy) you have.

*Dates have been changed to make me anonymous.
If I was the one, i would have shouted and threatened and scatter everywhere. And let the worst happen.
I need to learn anger management if I want to do DIY

One thing is for sure, I am not part of the problem. Someone suggested I pay money as far back as January, I came to Nairaland, saw the process of doing DIY, and I was determined to do the right thing. I was even campaigning for DIY. I paid my money and my Kids online. Did my own capturing on March 10, and my deadline for submission was June 1.

So as a patriotic Nigerian, I should miss my opportunity because I want to be faithful to a country that is not faithful to me? I waited till a week b4 June 1 before I paid. They couldn't even find my file and they were forced to open a new file for me.

If I come here and advise that if you need it in 3 or 4 months, don't try DIY, I think it is not out of place. If I also share contact with people who needs it urgently, I also think it is not out of place.

If you need your own, next year, by all means, do DIY. I am for it also. But to try to help others could easily be misconstrued in this Nigeria. I come in peace!

I followed this thread and was inspired by DIY, and was fully say no to corruption. Uk carer visa opportunity came around so I told two of my family member to do passport. One in asaba, one in benin. That was in January

O boy... Feb,Mar, Apri, may,June came we are still chasing passport matter. Even one I
sent to bayelsa based on what I saw here. On reaching bayelsa they didn't not agree to capture until after hours later when we had to drop something . ... capture done, 2 months later still no sight of passport . The ones in January we still waiting despite now paying more in the end

Meanwhile all the links for the UK opportunity are now filled up. I am saying no to corruption but if I was to do this passport again, I do it differently and by now these people who have gotten their visa. Kudos to those who do DIY, it simply doesn't work in all states in Nigeria . Some states it takes months have been my life experiences and not what written on NL

Northern States DIY - OK
Southern States DIY - on your own.

Southern States have been turned to Head Quarters of corruption in Nigeria - So pathetic.

An average Northerner would not do what he would do in the North when posted to the South because the South is seen as the milking ground including drilling free oil, VAT etc, not just in NIS, but also in the Police, Armed Forces, VIO, FRSC.

An Average Southerner would not carry his corruption up north at the same scale he does it down South. He would be so afraid because over there boys are not smiling. An average Northerner would not allow a "foreigner" to Milk his kinsmen.

Until effective systems are put in place; we'll continue to see these evil activities rising.

May God help us.

Hello please how long did the date of capturing take? And can I please g t the officer's number?
missidy:
I read this thread before applying for my passport and saw all the wahala of applying online/DIY. I got an officers number at ikoyi from a friend and paid. Uncle did everything for me, I sent him my details via WhatsApp. I even got vip treatment as I didn't spend up to 15mins there when I went for capturing. Got my passport in 4 days. Went back on the 4th day and got my passport directly from him. Meanwhile they were using megaphone to be calling others on that long queue.
Pay an officer that has been recommended to you and get your passport easily. No go stress yourself.

Sorry boss, I did DIY too and didn’t face any issues as I had all my original documents and e even extra even though it was IKOYI office... follow NIS and Minister of interior on Twitter for update... if you have the officers name, you can report there on their Twitter page... it’s very active ....

Pls is it necessary I go with my guarantor? Or I just need him/ her to sign the guarantor form + his nin + passport photograph.

Also, as a family of three, can I make use of just one guarantor for the three of us??

Pls kindly respond if u see this

but the idiot southerners are milking their fellow brothers in the south. Once posted to the north, they behave. Like what sort of wickedness is this. It is too rampant in the south.
Passports in the north, one week you’ll get ppt at 17k with no noise.
Same with the police, why is there no police extortion up north.. i weep .. southerners are wicked

But Nigerians especially southerners do not like due process. They will walk into an office and start looking for who will do it express and fast then come online to point fingers. Always looking for ways to subvert the system. Waiting their turn is toxic to them or ffg due process is toxic to them

You don’t need to go with the guarantor oo, just his signature and necessary documentation and yes one guarantor can serves for all..

Wahala for person wey do DIY. grin

I don't intend to pay any more dime to any moudafucker.

Besides these documents listed here for me to bring on my date of appointment, do I require anything else for the renewal?
