While what Obi has said here is true enough, it hardly requires any kind of deep insight to make such a statement, and he hasn't bothered to say anything about how he plans to change the situation, so why all the huffing and puffing about this as evidence of Obi's supposed "high IQ"?

Any person of average intelligence can point out problems in society. What I as a voter would like to know is what concrete steps Obi is proposing that no one else is. Simply "going to Egypt" is not a concrete policy proposal that can be applied via administrative fiat or passed through legislation, any more than is pointing out the corruption and ineptitude of the Nigerian Police Force. Making such glaring statements of the obvious certainly doesn't mark one out as constituting "fresh blood" or being any sort of original thinker, but none of the online commenters trying to hype Obi up as anything more than yet another corrupt waka-waka politician in the same mold as "Atiku" and "Tinubu" are able to point out a single concrete proposal of his that could conceivably make a difference, even assuming it could pass through two NASS chambers which will remain in the hands of the APC or the PDP.

The only motivation I can see for all the noisemaking about Peter Obi is the same old Nigerian one that drives almost all Nigerian politics: tribalism and religious sectarianism. That's why a man who has more hard evidence of corruption against him than merely having a bullion van come to his house - evidence even Obi himself has admitted is true - and who has switched parties more times than a serial divorcee has switched husbands, can be made out as some sort of man of principle with a saintly public profile. The Obi hype won't convince anyone with a working brain who doesn't see in the man a tribal champion.
