If it's an indigenous firm, then that pension is a huge scam.... Don't let it be a determining factor. I suggest you take the mainland job. Island stress is too much and believe me, it will start taking a toll on you and your job especially if you live on the mainland! Except its a government or multinational job...

Think long term, which one gives you more opportunity to grow and increase your income multiple folds in a couple of years. Any company that doesn't offer pension doesn't look like a structured place to work. Isn't pension compulsory by law provided the employer has a certain number of employees?

Some private companies offer pension but don't remit.

Just go for the 120k on mainland, it's better on terms of cost on transport, pay yourself pension from the salary. Most times the pension is scam not paid eventually. In terms of career growth, you can go for the best in that, in all, both are almost close considering cost of transportation lesser in one and much stress of commuting in the other.

Any of the job that has a clear career path, offers you immense opportunities to grow, and gives you freedom achieve you personal goals is the job you should consider.

Forget about the Island-mainland crap. Imagine where you would see yourself in 3 years, and choose the job that clicks all the boxes.
Not when you are spending close to 2k on transport and snacks daily..

If u stay on the mainland then I would advice I to go for mainland own. Transport, accomodations and feeding on the island is not a joke o.
Re: Which One Would You Take? by Nobody: 4:33pm On Jun 21, 2022
A job decision should not be based solely on money! This is your life we are discussing here, so please think long-term.

a) What is the job role and industry?
b) Which of these jobs or industry provides a better opportunity for growth?
c) How are both orgs structured and what is the culture? How did they make you feel during your interview sessions at both orgs?
d) What are your own goals? How old are you?
e) Which one offers opportunity for continuous learning and training?

Unless you plan to reside in Ketu forever, you have to play the long game. Sometimes, gains from a temporary discomfort could far outweigh whatever temporary comfort you may be gaining.

Please hold on to 12k in mainland
1 the traffic will not be much
2 Transportation fare
3 You will wake up very early everyday to island
4 if u decide to rent an apartment here in island hmmmmmm forget u are finish
Re: Which One Would You Take? by solochris(m): 4:41pm On Jun 21, 2022
I have worked both in Island and mainland. My advise is as follows:
1. Forget about the pension, u r not getting it. Just pay yourself pension.
2. By the time island traffic deals with you for a month, you will beg God for a job in mainland
3. Cost of living in island is on the high side
4. Add the 13th month salary plus your leave allowance, its almost the same as the difference in the salary
5. 30k difference does not worth the stress

The choice is yours

Go for the island offer. Your aim should be to network and move up to the next level.

You reside in Ketu

You are better off on the mainland. 30k is nothing compared to the stress of daily commuting to n fro. Mainland to Island.

For any company with more than 15 employees, the minimum contribution is mandatory. So if the companies don't remit, does it mean they have less than 15 employees or are they flagrantly flouting the law?

Some companies won't remit, yet they deduct monthly from your salary.

Just make sure you hold enough money to pay for it.

You should go for a job that enhances your career growth. Three years ago, I took up a job that fetched me less than 50k but promoted my career growth. Now I earn more than 3k USD every month.

Choose wisely.

Ordinary HMO you don't know but you are the Nairaland chief HR adviser.

If you don't know what HMO is, it means you have never seen the 4 walls of any corporate organization and have no business advising any 9-5er.

I work at the island now, but I will advise you go for the job at the mainland cos the traffic going to the island is horrible and if only you have a place at the island where you live then I can advise you go for the island job

If you live on the mainland, bro take the 120k.

Why would you take a job of 150k on the island just because of 30k difference. The holdup Is not worth it. Also, the transport fare will take that 30k.
Except you live on the island and in relatively close proximity to the office, then and only then should you take the 150k job on the Island.

Depends on other factors like job security, and prospect of wage increase, and how things would impact on your overall CV in terms of changing jobs in future.

I would have advised you to go for mainland but I feel you are more opportune to connect on the island. You may meet someone that knows someone that needs someone. Also the company down the street may need someone and you get recommended. Sometime a smile might get u noticed. Works better if u are a female

Please go for that of the mainland.
Those saying connections on the island, cut it! When do you have time to make the connections?
There is your LinkedIn which was the most powerful tool (if you use it well) and you have your social media.
Pls that leave allowance and 13th month salary is also key. I've worked in places that had none of it and I've worked in places where they give it.
In all, which of them offers more career growth? Choose it. All the best

When u have boosted your CV and experience, island will pay u better with better conditions
