i was in kano on a work trip
flight was supposed to be 6pm. eventually we took off at 11pm. the plane was full of abokis.
there was a fellow opposite me, who did not switch ff his phone.
i actually barked t the guy, switch off your phone, but he did not answer. everyone else was just looking

i was extremely paranoid because, for all you know, the guy could be a bandit or terrorist planted on the plane, sending advance notice to his gang that we were finally taking off. anyway we landed uneventfully, but i still waited until almost everyone had come down, incase the guy i had shouted at started pointing at me a a Quran defiler or something.

normally, whe i go to kano, there is someone to pick me, but this was 1am. so i had to take a car hire.

i was going to take an uber, but the guy was being very dodgy - speaking in yoruba - one of the ploys to put people at ease, and saying someone else would be riding with us. and this guy was BIG. i simply took the car hire, making a show of capturing and sending the license plate.

very few roads were lit, and we were stopped repeatedly by armed patrols in all mufti.

i had no idea who anyone was

i sha got to the hotel safely

same way return flight was eventually 11pm and i landed at after 12.
i had called a guy to come and pick me. 8k. i was not going to take any chances whatsoever with uber or car hire at that late hour

that was a lagos to kano journey, and there was a risk and possibility of kidnap/robbery.

now take that and multiply it by 50 and present it to people who live in a stable society

even when we were driving from the airport it was dangerous. driver was speeding, no lighs anywhere, and multiple trailers.

i could not even say wheter the absence of police checkpoints was a good thing or a bad thing, since they love harassing people in corollas and camrys

this country is unsafe . that is all i have to say.
