Hi friends,

I'm an American visiting Lagos in a few weeks. In America they don't teach world history, just American history (which is why our population is so dumb!).

And so before my trip, I'm trying to learn more about Nigerian history, and the history of nearby countries.

What do _you_ think I should learn about?

Colonialism?
The war in '67?
What else?

Brief History of the three major ethnic groups(Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa); most especially that of the yoruba people predominant in the South-western part of Nigeria of which Lagos is included.

Since it's Lagos you're going to, how about you start with the history of Lagos?

Historian Kristin Mann wrote an accessible history of the city in precolonial times.
