I hope more information will be made available about his identity. If he got he got educated here in Nigeria, then he most probably passed through the process required to practice in the U.K. as a foreign physician. I still don't support the idea of such an old man to be allowed to perform a surgery.

The same way in Nigeria that the older Civil Servants and Politicians doctor their ages to make them younger than they really are thus denying the younger generation the chance to get good government jobs.

The patient he killed died because the old man used the wrong needle on the wrong side of her body thus piercing her heart .

The Nigeria-born doctor's "true age" remains a matter of "controversy", the court heard, as his birthplace did not have a birth registration system.

A doctor who admitted to killing a mother of three during a botched procedure has been jailed for three years.

Dr Isyaka Mamman pleaded guilty to gross negligence manslaughter over the death of Shahida Parveen in 2018 at the Royal Oldham Hospital.

The 85-year-old, who had previously been suspended for lying about his age, used the wrong needle and inserted it in the wrong place, piercing the sac holding Ms Parveen's heart.

The court heard how the 48-year-old lost consciousness as soon as the needle was inserted, causing her husband to flee the room shouting: "He killed her. I told him to stop three times and he did not listen."

Before her death, Mamman had been responsible for a series of critical incidents, including one that left a patient permanently disabled.

Sentencing him at Manchester Crown Court, Mrs Justice Yip said the death was his main responsibility but the hospital trust should have done more after Mamman had lied about his age and botched previous procedures.

The Nigeria-born doctor's "true age" remains a matter of "controversy", the court heard, as his birthplace did not have a birth registration system.

He qualified as a doctor in Nigeria in 1965 and had worked in the UK since 1991 but, throughout his career, he gave a number of different birth dates.

He later revised his date of birth down to 1941 and, as it was approaching his time to retire, he changed it again to October 1947.

The date, which would imply he started his degree at the age of 10, was used on his application for naturalisation as a British citizen in 2001.

Three years later, he was found guilty of serious professional misconduct by the General Medical Council and suspended for 12 months for lying about his age.

MDCN has a tribunal, which can strip doctors of their licence to practice, or suspend them.

I want to point out that the Quota system implemented in Nigeria to give "Undue equity/advantage" to the backsliding Northern Nigerians who had some preindependence religiously mediated "antiwestern" ideas had been a mainstay by the colonial masters prior to 1960 Independence.

If it is naija, NMA will be going on strike. The health system in Nigeria needs complete overhauling.

The Medical and Dental council has been sanctioning doctors for decades, even sacking and removing some from the register of doctors as unfit for practice in this country, including professors and senior doctors, and NMA has not gone on strike.

H'll, even all the doctors on the tribunal that dish out punishments are NMA members self.

Amidst the Outrageous discrepancies in the admission marks , yet the Southern persons still have th highest admission into the learning environment.

So when you argue that even though there could be Implemented Quota system preindependence, it didn't solve the problem of undue recruitment of Northerners into the system then, well I want to tell you that even now you are certain of implemented Quota system , it still didn't defeat the "Imbalance".

Even then, the guy was not admitted by quota back in 1960-65 , thank you very much. University admisions then were much tougher. Regardless of tribe.

Plus, I know for a fact that if you want to read medicine in one Northern university, even if you are a Hausa Fulani and son of the soil...so long as your jamb score is not above 270, nothing for you.

Oga, in ABU, they do not look at you unless you have a JAMB score of 220 and above. You can be a Awusa , or fulani from Kano, Kaduna or Sokoto, or Katsina...and you cannot even think about reading medicine without 270 and above, plus five credits WAEC, plus passing post jamb,

Plus he graduated in 1965. In 1965, ABU did not have a medical faculty at all (till 1967). No medical faculty existed in the North at 1965.

Even with a score of 60 in JAMB, no Northern unviersity would look at you at all, not even to read Hausa (and to read Hausa , you need Credit in English self!)

Trust UK lawyers, the late woman's husband will get millions of pounds from the hospital the Doctor worked at although no amount of millions can bring back his wife or erase the trauma he will feel for the rest of his life that he witnessed his wife die due to a bungled procedure by a Doctor who was way past his prime and should not have been working as a Doctor due to old age.
