Freedom with little money is more important than no-freedom with more money.

The most depressing time of my life was when I was an employee, waking up as early as 5am to force shower, force shit and eat breakfast when I'm not even hungry, to rush and catch my train so I can resume work at 7.30 am.

I was paid good money, at least enough to live well as a single frugal male that doesn't have useless hobbies such as drinking, womanising, gambling, clubbing, and smoking. Each hour seems so long, as I hopelessly look at the clock for my shift to end.

I am also under pressure to play office politics, to lick asses and go against my virtues to be promoted, liked and seen in a good light by everyone, also the fake gestures I must show to people whom I just want to punch them till they faint. Horrible modafukas.

Men, I had to just make the decision to quit and as fate may have it, my employer provoked me, which made me quit in a grand style. She wanted me to do something that was not within my line of duty. I would have done it if she was polite, but like with every stupid boss, they always think giving you a job means giving you life.

I told her there that I won't do it, that it is not within my line of duty. She then decided to test my resolve by saying that if I can't do it, then I should leave. Probably expect some series of begging, lol. There and then, I just told her "fine, I'm leaving". I took my stuff and left.

I felt good afterwards. I was broke for few months but after that, things just begin getting better. Now I sleep better, I wake up without the sound of an annoying alarm. My vibes is positive and everyday seems like an adventure to me, because I do my thing without being subservient to anyone.

So yes, my first job taught me that freedom with lack, is better than no-freedom with abundance. Now ask yourself this question. Imagine you're a lion. Would you rather be caged in a zoo and giving three meals per day, or to be free and roam the vast savannah hunting down your own meals? Basically doing what you want without another man deciding your destiny ?

The idea that another human with brain like me will determine how I spend my day for most of my life is depressing. To give a job that doesn't care about me the best time of my day (8am to 6pm), my life, and for so many years, is slavery. Never will I go back to that again. NEVER.

33. What about borrowing?

CaveAdullam:
1. Be competent.

2. Give no room for complacency; it will be used against you in the future.

3. Always go with the required tools or materials for work.

4. By all means avoid excuses; it will give you might to challenge anyone who wants to use their lackadaisical attitude to limit you.

5. Don't argue with your boss. Answer yes!

6. Suggest ideas to your boss why praise him. Your boss doesn't need your ideas by the way.

7. You can't change an already established system, you are there for the money, work for it and get out.

8. Respect your senior colleagues, if not, they will work against you.

9. Respect your junior colleagues, they can make work faster and run some shitty games for you.

10. Respect the janitors and other staff not directly connected to the activities of the business. They will help you someday. Tip them from time to time. They can defend you at the right moment.

11. Respect your clients or customers. Falling on the wrong side will either affect your profits or salary.

12. Customers and clients want praise. Saturate them with it. It takes nothing from you, just mere words.

13. Don't argue with your boss or superior. Doing the opposite will help him spot loopholes in your line of work and use them against you.

14. Learn how to defend yourself especially when you make mistakes. Explain yourself rather than apologize. You need competence to pull this string though.

15. Don't separate yourself from your colleagues, work with them so that you'll get a glimpse of what's going on.

16. Maintain your standard. Don't be cajoled into any nonsense. This sends a message to your colleagues that you are different and can't easily be fooled.

17. Office romance must be avoided. If you don't have the mental fortitude and deceptiveness to pull office romance, forget it.

18. Always do your work on time and finish on time.

19. Use free time to do other useful activities. It can be within or outside your scope of work. E.g reading, writing, teaching, etc.

20. Only argue with your boss when that month is the last you will be working with him.

21. Always pay homage to your superior's superior. This person will help you when you experience friction with your current superior or boss. E.g Manager, Founder, President of the organization.

22. Put yourself in a position where you can't easily be replaced. Only competence and great skill can help you here.

23. Learn to cover your mistakes and quickly correct them. Nobody loves a clumsy worker.

24. Be passionate about your work. If you are not, you will make foolish mistakes along the way.

25. Don't leave your current job because of anticipation of another job that you have not secured fully. Except you have big savings though.

26. Even if you don't like your boss or work, just do your assigned role and work your way out.

27. If a promotion doesn't come easily don't do extra work.

28. Extra work will make your boss use you as a beast of burden. Protect your competence from exploitation.

29. If you are not paid for extra work, feigned laziness. But do your assigned role perfectly.

30. Take corrections and learn. Despite your competence, you can't be perfect.

31. Be patient.

32. Be good-looking. Dress fine. Wear clean shoes. Wear a good necklace. Wear a good wristwatch. Wear good bracelets. They don't need to be expensive at all; hardly anyone will ask you for their costs.

33. Don't beg your colleagues for food and money. There can be a show of love through the giving and receiving of gifts. But make sure you don't beg. Learn to manage your resources.

34. Learn to resume on time.

35. Not everybody can become an entrepreneur. Employees must respect the ethics of their work. And employers must treat employees well because they are the backbone of the organization, and if they connive together, they can bring the organization down in a moment.

Thanks.

My Experience in my first place of work and the lesson.

I started working with this construction company as the cashier with second class upper in Accounting. One day the CEO walked up to me and said we are under using you, on top of 50k salary. Then he offered me the opportunity to be his Personal Assistance. With additional bonuses such as free meal and transport fare.

I obliged and the next day I started my new role, 2 months later, he said I want to make you the group head of Audit, I obliged, salary was increased to 80k, bonuses such as 100k house rent incentive and 20percent on cost saving.

Long story made short, being a construction firm I was always sent on field trips, one of the field trip in Ondo, I intervene, we were constructing about 500kilo meter Road project. I saved alot of cost, I purchased and supervised the laying of asphalt. And I saved 15million naira from that project. I was to be paid 3M, but one story led to one and the other. And the money was shared among everyone. I didn't get up to a million, be a Dynamite (Dunamis Member) a devoted christian, I continue doing the right thing.

Some Engineers started resigning, and started sending me threats but I never mind, one of the project in Abuja, real estate, we were about to do polistering ( updated version of POP). Engineers brought quotation for 8000 per sqm. My Boss called me and ask me to see how I could help. By God's grace and mercy I got a person who agreed to do 5500 both with materials for 2500 sqm. God helping, I faced alot of opposition trying to fustrate the Job, but God intervene and the job was completed.

My boss kept singing my praise, not knowing it was the beginning of my exit route from the company. Fast forward to this year, on 18 march, 2022. An instruction from a junior staff got to my table to make payments and I refused, and the information got to the chairman, who was higher than my Immediate boss, that was how my immediate boss, to save his ass, directed that I should be suspended.

My audience, I was called back few weeks ago, after 4 months at home, even though I am not engage as at the period of waiting this. I refused with pride cos, they won't have my type again.

My lessons:
1. Be honest
2. Hard work and dedicated
3. Be trustworthy
4. Don't kill your self for your boss.
5. Save from genuine income
And always have in mind that you might be kicked out anyday.

When people are speaking, only listen. When you are told to speak, speak less but let silence be your ultimate goal.

Before you answer any query, or type any message, respond to any message at work or what have you. Write is down, eat, drink and sleep on it before you hit send, in the morning you will find clarity.

My first job was one I thought I couldn't do (SEO for a website like that) but when I got the job, I learnt on the job and today, I'm an authority in that field.

Bottom line is that you should apply for that job today and put in the work. Chances are your employer won't notice it's your first time.

2. Nobody is your friend. One of my collegues monitored me waiting for me to slip up in someway just to get me fired and earm his promotion, simply because he's been there longer and we were earning the same.

3. Don't die for your job. You'll only get the 'one minute silence' thingy which nobody will do.

So, treat your employees right, competence, patience, resume early, do useful activities during leisure, no to office romance, look good, obey your superior, learn, make corrections, have standards, manage your resources, respect your cleaners, respect your clients...cannot work in sole proprietorship (one-man business) right? Indeed it is surprising.

Thanks.
