Freedom with little money is more important than no-freedom with more money. The most depressing time of my life was when I was an employee, waking up as early as 5am to force shower, force shit and eat breakfast when I'm not even hungry, to rush and catch my train so I can resume work at 7.30 am. I was paid good money, at least enough to live well as a single frugal male that doesn't have useless hobbies such as drinking, womanising, gambling, clubbing, and smoking. Each hour seems so long, as I hopelessly look at the clock for my shift to end. I am also under pressure to play office politics, to lick asses and go against my virtues to be promoted, liked and seen in a good light by everyone, also the fake gestures I must show to people whom I just want to punch them till they faint. Horrible modafukas. Men, I had to just make the decision to quit and as fate may have it, my employer provoked me, which made me quit in a grand style. She wanted me to do something that was not within my line of duty. I would have done it if she was polite, but like with every stupid boss, they always think giving you a job means giving you life. I told her there that I won't do it, that it is not within my line of duty. She then decided to test my resolve by saying that if I can't do it, then I should leave. Probably expect some series of begging, lol. There and then, I just told her "fine, I'm leaving". I took my stuff and left. I felt good afterwards. I was broke for few months but after that, things just begin getting better. Now I sleep better, I wake up without the sound of an annoying alarm. My vibes is positive and everyday seems like an adventure to me, because I do my thing without being subservient to anyone. So yes, my first job taught me that freedom with lack, is better than no-freedom with abundance. Now ask yourself this question. Imagine you're a lion. Would you rather be caged in a zoo and giving three meals per day, or to be free and roam the vast savannah hunting down your own meals? Basically doing what you want without another man deciding your destiny ? The idea that another human with brain like me will determine how I spend my day for most of my life is depressing. To give a job that doesn't care about me the best time of my day (8am to 6pm), my life, and for so many years, is slavery. Never will I go back to that again. NEVER. |

My Experience in my first place of work and the lesson. I started working with this construction company as the cashier with second class upper in Accounting. One day the CEO walked up to me and said we are under using you, on top of 50k salary. Then he offered me the opportunity to be his Personal Assistance. With additional bonuses such as free meal and transport fare. I obliged and the next day I started my new role, 2 months later, he said I want to make you the group head of Audit, I obliged, salary was increased to 80k, bonuses such as 100k house rent incentive and 20percent on cost saving. Long story made short, being a construction firm I was always sent on field trips, one of the field trip in Ondo, I intervene, we were constructing about 500kilo meter Road project. I saved alot of cost, I purchased and supervised the laying of asphalt. And I saved 15million naira from that project. I was to be paid 3M, but one story led to one and the other. And the money was shared among everyone. I didn't get up to a million, be a Dynamite (Dunamis Member) a devoted christian, I continue doing the right thing. Some Engineers started resigning, and started sending me threats but I never mind, one of the project in Abuja, real estate, we were about to do polistering ( updated version of POP). Engineers brought quotation for 8000 per sqm. My Boss called me and ask me to see how I could help. By God's grace and mercy I got a person who agreed to do 5500 both with materials for 2500 sqm. God helping, I faced alot of opposition trying to fustrate the Job, but God intervene and the job was completed. My boss kept singing my praise, not knowing it was the beginning of my exit route from the company. Fast forward to this year, on 18 march, 2022. An instruction from a junior staff got to my table to make payments and I refused, and the information got to the chairman, who was higher than my Immediate boss, that was how my immediate boss, to save his ass, directed that I should be suspended. My audience, I was called back few weeks ago, after 4 months at home, even though I am not engage as at the period of waiting this. I refused with pride cos, they won't have my type again. My lessons: 1. Be honest 2. Hard work and dedicated 3. Be trustworthy 4. Don't kill your self for your boss. 5. Save from genuine income And always have in mind that you might be kicked out anyday. |

If you fail to develop yourself, you will be underpaid. Another thing, be loyal to your own dreams and never try to initate other's dream. You will only be a copy If you don't work on your dreams early, those that did will employ you to work for theirs. |

My first job was a teaching assistance at Auchi Poly. Women are beautiful loving beings but I thought I understood them. Years later women are still beautiful loving beings yet I still don't understand them. |

My first job was one I thought I couldn't do (SEO for a website like that) but when I got the job, I learnt on the job and today, I'm an authority in that field. Bottom line is that you should apply for that job today and put in the work. Chances are your employer won't notice it's your first time. |

CaveAdullam:You would've just quoted/replied that "You did the writing from initiative, not from Google" rather than insulting your ancestors. So it shows your IQ is even lower than mine. Besides, I don't think any sensitive mortal can be jealous about that time consuming epistle you pasted there |

rickleye:You may be right but, I didn't think of such, I was very angry about how my hardwork and honesty was rewarded. I felt it was an opportunity to pay back. Anyway, I don't think they would have accepted to pay me my 4month salary. Cos it has not been in practice before since I joined them. Even my rent was not paid because, I was not going to stay with them again. It pains but that is the sad reality. |

Oyindamolah:So, treat your employees right, competence, patience, resume early, do useful activities during leisure, no to office romance, look good, obey your superior, learn, make corrections, have standards, manage your resources, respect your cleaners, respect your clients...cannot work in sole proprietorship (one-man business) right? Indeed it is surprising. Y'all just want to respond or perhaps counter without the ability in parsing sentences or having an understanding of nuance(s). Have a nice day. |
