Team 18 a surrogate force of Kenyan commandos over which the US SOF are meant to exercise a certain level of operational control (with Kenyas consent) both in Somalia and Kenya .it was set up, trained, equipped and is guided on tactical counter-terror operations by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)

generally one does not use a missile which costs at least 1.5 million dollars per missile ( for the S400 system) to intercept little MLRS rockets . Even for the Buk systems it would be too expensive and not really effective .

To deal with the Himars it must be the artillery ,MLRS , counter battery systems and radars that are involved with air force and UAV assistance .
Exactly, your opinion sounds more logical

yes , like the AH-64 D Apache Longbow radar. it's a millimeter wave radar the N-025 Almaz-280 that operates in the Ka-band band and J band , It has a range of about 25 km for a large fixed target such as a bridge, 15 km for a large velicle such as a tactical-ballistic-missile launcher, 10-12 km for an armored fighting vehicle, and 6-8 km for a soft-skin vehicle. Unlike the Longbow radar, the Almaz-280 has both attack and navigation modes

Years ago, a 100+ year old man taught me the greatest lesson: LEARN to look deeper into things!
He told me such strange ishyt I rmbr I lolled at one point- later I discovered he told no lies, NOT even exaggerations and what I assumed to be the false memories of Alzheimer's were ALL true .
I might tell the story one day.

One thing from this tread I learnt from is to look deeply in things..
Especially history as written/spoken on mainstream media.

Some perspective an armour penetration vis a vis .50 BMG, 14.5 mm and 23 mm. I noticed most have no clue apart from games like CoD and ofc Hollywood.
What will these rounds actually do? Some facts:

-
A common method for understanding the actual power of a cartridge is comparison of muzzle energies. The .30-06 Springfield, the standard caliber for American soldiers in both World Wars and a popular caliber amongst American hunters, can produce muzzle energies between 2,000 and 3,000 foot-pounds force (3,000 and 4,000 J). The .50 BMG round can produce between 10,000 and 15,000 foot-pounds force (14,000 and 20,000 J), depending on its powder and bullet type, as well as the weapon it is fired from.
[url]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_BMG/url]

This gun was later developed into the M2HB Browning which with its .50 caliber armor-piercing cartridges went on to function as an anti-aircraft and anti-vehicular machine gun, capable of penetrating 0.9 inches (23 mm) of face-hardened armor steel plate at 200 meters (220 yd), 1 inch (25 mm) of rolled homogeneous armor ...

14.5s start out with 3x the energy!

The projectile has a muzzle velocity of approximately 1,006 meters per second and can penetrate 40 millimeters of steel at an incidence of 60 degrees at a range of 100 meters, or 32 millimeters at a range of 500 meters.[1]
[url][https://military-history.fandom.com/wiki/14.5%C3%97114mmurl]
The 23 mm has ofc farther penetrating distance.
The armor-piercing round could penetrate 25 mm (1 in) of armor at 400 m (1,300 ft).
[url]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkov-Yartsev_VYa-23/url]

IIRC at least one missile Ratel variant was taken out by a 14.5 milly in Angola. The best MRAPs are ONLY safe from . 50 BMGs at 200m; 14.5 mm best safe distance is maybe 800 m while 23 mm is perhaps twice. Only heavy 8x8 AFVs can withstand its penetration like the Rooikat.
The vehicle was made of steel and could resist Soviet 23mm shell fire.
https://aw.my.games/en/news/general/development-rooikat

Rmbr also NOT all operators of these guns are dusty MOFOS on a technical. HELLZ NO! Nowadays many of these systems are hydraulically stabilised with laser range finders and electro optics.
ONLY a careless, soon to be KIA or court martialled commander knowingly leads his guys whether mech, motorised or dismounts into the range of these weapons without proper support.

Solid nimble looking vehicle. Well suited for Special Forces and Fast intervention squads.

I hope Nigeria military buy a couple of these.

DSS can also use them.

I'd trust that writer Nick Turse- he wrote "Kill anything that moves " back in 2013 about the real American war in Vietnam. Truly every US commander would've been imprisoned UNDER the jail for what they did.

I meant GSU not KDF from all Africa link....

Kenya's first paramilitary police squad dedicated primarily to counter-terrorism operations, then went to the US disguised as individuals on sports scholarship.

"From there, the men were flown to another destination and driven in buses with blacked-out windows so that the trainees could not know the location," the paper adds.

Training

Though the recruits never found out where they were being trained, many suspected they were at Annapolis Naval Academy in Maryland.

A former senior US official with direct knowledge of the programme said they were also likely taken to the CIA training facility at Camp Peary, near Williamsburg in Virginia, also known as "The Farm".

The team received training from CIA contractors, former special operations forces and SWAT team members of the US police in tactical operations, close-quarter combat, weapons handling, reconnaissance, surveillance and intelligence gathering.

The men also undertook several courses with names such as "Renditions Operations Training" and "Disruption Operations", according to the report in the Daily Maverick.
