Cruise is used for highway driving (interstate) when the road is free, with cruise control on, the car would maintain the speed you set only decelerating when brake pedal is used. That way you can rest your legs and just focus on the road ahead

Overdrive no much talk just use it especially when towing a trailer or anything else it is on when not displayed on dash and off when displayed on dash. It should be left ON for normal driving

1. The Cruise Control helps you to maintain your speed steadily at where you set the cruise control without using the throttle when you are on the highway. All you have to do is to control the direction of the car by the steering wheel. The vehicle will maintain its speed without you pressing the accelerator. Once you press the brake, the cruise control is deactivated.

2. The Over Drive (OD) helps your car to run at a higher speed without laboring your engine. The OD will reduce your RPM even when your car is at a high speed, thereby reducing your engine labour and fuel consumption. This will make your engine last longer.

The difference between Cruise Control and Over Drive is that, when you set the cruise control, you dont use your throttle/accelerator again while your vehicle keeps speeding at the steady kilometer per hour rate you want. BUT with the OD while you keep using your accelerator to determine your speed, your engine will not suffer any pressure or labour. The OD is best used when you are at top speed on highway, as the speed will not strain your engine. OD will not let your engine overwork by the speed.
Caveat - OD is not to be used for towing or climbing uphill road.

Cruise control allows you to maintain a set speed without using the accelerator. Once you've selected the speed, you can take your foot off the accelerator and the vehicle will cruise at that speed.

With my Ford I can increase my acceleration, it has positive and negative button for increase or decrease

I discovered that My O/D light blinks on the dashboard, then when I put the car on D (drive) it doesn’t take off not until I match the turtle.

set ur cruise at a particular speed and you no longer need to use the accelerator.
It’ll continue at that speed automatically

I can either shut up or Google this question, bring the answer and look smart but, why don't you try the bolded? Ok. I'm just joking.

Now back the the question, I normally use cruise in a terrain where there is relatively no traffic, traffic light that can stop me abruptly or pot holes because when the cruise is set, let's say at 40mph, you don't have to pump the gas, the car accelerates on its own.

But overdrive, it's simply when you want to overdrive the car just exactly as bank overdraft works
