Imagine 2 CBs I mentioned few minutes ago are wanted by epl clubs while the likes of awaziem and omeruo are still running round in the Turkish league and Spanish 2nd tier

Sometimes I feel some of our players lack ambition. Once they move to europe they become too settled to work hard for better clubs and offers

Too bad! angry

Small time now they will tell you how ndah is the best thing to happen to football in South African league cheesy

Without rohr bringing him on board Italy or England would hv capped him and we all will be crying by now cheesy
Oga invited him and kept him on the bench throughout, the other guys Italy and England could gave stolen him after that gaffe by Rohr but they didn't. The same Eguavoen eventually cap-tied him

Emekus oga Kog na elder for here o, abeg make we discuss and no need for fighting or dissing sir. In the 80s and 90s, European teams could only play 3 foreign players. Foreign then means foreign whether from a member EU state or not. Also, there wasn't enough money back in soccer then as you have now.
Thanks the Sun man,we don settled.

It was damn difficult in the 80s,talented Yekini in the 80s went to Ivory coast and later to Portuguese second division.Rashidi latter made his little money in his short stint in Saudi league.

The opportunities then were very limited compared to what we have now...my point was Nigeria or Africa players in the 80s didn't have the opportunity to excel even the french clubs preferred francophone guys.It was Keshi who took it personally by linking Nigeria players up in Belgium and thank God for Westerhoff for the exposure in the 90s.These two personalities really assisted Nigeria football.

And Rohr invited Ndah and Nwakali?
Oga Subzero, and Rohr invited Chiedebere Nwakali.

Let's give it to Eguavoen for Bassey debut against Ghana in all important WC qualifier and for having the gut to bench Porto boy Zanusi.

I really appreciate Rohr for his first invitation but more respect for Eguavoen for cap tied the boy cos by now Italy or England would have extended invitation to him and trust Southgate.

Good luck to young Bassey,i see him performing in Dutch league but UCL performance would be his KPI for another huge transfer from Ajax.

Why should he even look to leave Ajax in the nearest future??

Apart from the Top six and some few clubs here and there

I don't see any club better than Ajax at the moment.. the hype for EPL is just too much.. imagine preferring Brigton to Ajax

The Serie A campaigners are in the market for a classy deputy for their Austrian attacker and are eyeing a move for Lorient’s main man

Italian side Bologna FC 1909 have identified Nigeria and Lorient striker Terem Moffi has a possible transfer target this summer, according to authoritative Italian publications Corriere dello Sport.

The report claims Bologna are pleased with the performance of Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic, but the Rossoblù want a capable support striker for the former Inter Milan ace.

Fresh from arriving from China, Arnautovic smashed 14 Serie A goals in 33 games for Bologna last term. The 33-year-old former West Ham star is set to lead the line once again for the Red and Blue next season.

Bologna are, however, in the market for an alternative for Arnautovic and have lined up Groningen striker Jorgen Strand Larson as their first-choice signing.

Larson netted 14 goals in the Nethherlands elite league least season.

On Saturday, Italian transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a €22m move to Ajax is close to completion for Bassey.

This move must be a jarring news to the Rangers faithful as he’s young and has some huge potential and upside. The Scottish club are however a factory at best, especially when bigger clubs prowl. There is not so much weight behind their level to keep players highly regarded and of significant interest in Europe.

Bassey’s run in the Europa League last season was the golden run for the defender. He played as a central defender solidly and successfully, proving a behemoth in most games, hardly-beaten, calculating, fast and aware. As a left back or left wing-back, he also showed enough weaponry to give Rangers enough options to dance with.

Ajax sale of Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United leaves a gaping hole as the Argentine is one of the most solid players in the team. Bassey, in all his elements and strengths, present a like-for-like replacement in abilities and strengths.

Martinez can also play as a centre back where he flourished last season and as a left back or wing back. His impressive range of passing created a good number of situations for the Dutch champions last season.

Football Highlights

Bassey, at 22, is close to that player. His passing range has consistently improved and as a left back, his surging run, incredible physicality and awareness are core strengths. It’s not common to have such instant replacements out of the locker in one player and Ajax must be credited for digging deep.

In terms of style, Bassey has proven he can fit into a number of systems and his adaptability is impressive.

While there are weaknesses to his game, his recovery sandpapers those moments of slip-ups.

Ajax is a perfect place to brush this character into a world beater, and coming from a different school of football – the British school means he has new modules to cover. He has proven he can adapt when patiently handled and he will at Ajax and if he moves in the future, will also adapt outside the Dutch system.

A win for the believers
There were games last season where Bassey got sticks from Rangers fans but once he settled to the team, he was one of the star legs.

When Steven Gerrard took the player to Scotland in 2020, many Gers fans must have cringed at what his plans were and an uninteresting first season, despite Rangers domestic success would have heaped a lot of questions.

More than the manager could answer, the player needed his own response and it came in part under the Aston Villa manager.

Stars would align for Bassey when former Dutch national team captain Giovani Van Bronckhorst was announced as Rangers manager. It was the element he needed in his growth and there was a thrust of trust in his abilities and potential.

The Bassey the world saw under Van Bronckhorst was almost unplayable on his day and a lot of credit must go to the Dutchman.

With the Super Eagles, he has risen in leaps and bounds and has bounced back from his struggles against Ghana at the World Cup qualifiers.

Every ounce of confidence shown in Bassey has been repaid with the biggest and probably best move made by any Nigerian so far in this transfer window.

Ajax do not only tick every box in terms of size and prestige, they offer a football education and legacy that’s an interesting prospect for a player of incredible ability and potential.

Should Bassey show anything near what he has proven to have in the bag at Ajax, then the future summers have more sunny days.

Per reports, Premier League campaigners West Ham have set their sights on signing Hertha Berlin defender Jordan Torunarigha.

According to Belgian news outlet Voetbal Nieuws, the Hammers have submitted an official bid for Torunarigha, intending to wrap up the deal shortly.

Torunarigha has been at Hertha Berlin since 2006, first as an eight-year-old schoolboy, before turning professional ten years later.

The 26-year-old left Hertha BSC for the first time in January, joining Belgian club Gent on a six-month loan deal.

Impressed with the defender’s quality, Gent reportedly offered Hertha two million euros plus bonuses for Torunarigha. But the Berliners laughed off the offer as nothing but five million euros on the table could convince them to part with the German youth international.

The nff and jpes should swallow their pride and go all out for the likes of uduokhai, torunarigha ,adarabioyo then recall akpoguma to the team. All these washed up CBs currently in the team should be discarded gradually. Awaziem, omeruo, ekong and balogun bye bye

It’s time to start building towards 2024 afcon and 2026 world cup
I agree about adding these guys to the squad but which pride should the NFF swallow? But we approached them, na Dem dey do shakara.
