Runningwater: Permit me to add a voice to this. I am a teacher. I teach A Level and advanced placement courses. I have colleagues who have doctorate in early years and teach in preschool and elementary.....and yes, they deliberately obtained their doctorate in early years education, some of them even went abroad to study. Me that I teach advanced classes, my salary is way below theirs'. To say that someone cannot obtain a higher degree just to teach primary students is a Nigerian-educational-system-induced-mentality. Foundation is very key. Many international schools will invest huge capitals in early years than others. I am not saying professors shouldn't be paid what they are due o. It is infact a national disgrace that a professor earns below $1000. One reason why the country has gone back beyond the stone age 3 Likes |

Dvdpity: People in industries, doctors, engineers etc earn far more than lecturers in sane countries. Most lecturers work part-time like 2days a week, and work another 3 days in their industries, and their teaching pay is pro-rated. Let's stop deceiving ourselves in Nigeria 1 Like 1 Share |

You feel ashamed? Let me rephrase the shame I feel. I feel ashamed that you an architect is head of TETFund. That you served as permanent secretary to the Ministry of Education is okay but being moved to TETFund is the biggest slap to all educationist because a teacher will never manage an architectural firm nor a hospital. Why this government believes that an architect is best to manage TETFund is most baffling as Nigeria has no shortfall of educators and that is the very SHAME tbat I feel. |

There is only one professor in Nigeria, that's prof. Wole Soyinka. I will all add Achebe. To me he is a prof. Those two lived up to the bill. But you see the likes of prof. Iwu, Attairu Jega they shouldn't be earning anything |

No need to be ashamed... The average Nigerian is neither ashamed nor bothered about such anomalies. That's why they campaign for poorly educated charlatans to lead them, while their best brains are doing wonders in other nations! |

Sulele04:There is no need to quote me throwing a childish tantrum. That is my opinion you are entitled to have a different opinion. If you want to engage , be polite and talk like an adult. That means solution focussed discourse. I am not God my opinion is just the way I see it .You do not have to agree. The simple truth is quality education costs money. Even if we want it to be free to the students the universities should be paid otherwise you just build a place call it university and award degrees after 4 years . We must do some calculations of what its costs to provide university education on average for 1 person each year rather than pretend. If you put a car on the road you cannot pretend you must buy petrol or diesel. Universities should be separate from government and if governments wants to give scholarships to everyone so be it at least people will know exactly how much government is spending on each student With this your approach what do you want from me? |

While the take home pay of a professor in Nigeria is nothing to write home about, some of them do carry themselves like demigods in the university! They sometimes treat other lecturers (PhD holders) like slaves! Whereas, their counterparts in Europe and North America are down to earth, understanding and easy going humans who earn more money and possesses more endowment funds than them. 2 Likes |

aribisala0:It seems I struck a nerve. Is your father a theif theif politician. Why are you pained. I didn't attack you. All I did was add pepper to your soup. We are both saying the same thing. Education is not government responsibility. They cannot afford it. Let them pay 1 million as school fees in Unilag, Ui, and co. Those that can't afford it should consider banditry, thuggery, or garage work. 1 Like |

I don't think any of my Professors earned below 2M a month back then. These guys leveraged their position to start well-established companies. Professors wey dey collect block as royalties on their IPs, them nor even get our time that year, instead, they were more invested in their companies (oil servicing). |

What makes $1000 in Naira has been gradually rising. From N 250k in 2015 to ~ N600k today. If this continues, virtually all Nigerians (Salaried) would earn below $1000. Not just Profs. 1 Like |

Elock1:They've done a lot, their efforts are not getting the right consideration/remuneration. One of my professors (Professor Abbas) was listed as one of the top 2% or so scientist in the world before his demise months ago. Majority of these professors do fund research works with the meagre and delayed salary they get from the government. I still stand on my words bro, there are lots of brilliant minds in our educational sector, it's a pity that the country is forcing them out hence the recent increase in the brain drain we're experiencing in the country. One of my professors in the field of organic chemistry/synthesis tried to synthesize a possible drug molecule and had a big problem getting access to facilities needed to carry out certain tests/procedures on the molecule. I also remembered the day I had the opportunity to know/see the contributions of another professor in my Alma mater during an academic lecture, I couldn't help but marvel bro. And all of them are lecturing at LAUTECH o, not even at the likes of UI/Unilag etc. Our educational sector is in ruin bro. And should I burst your bubble bro, some of the pharmaceutical companies we have in Nigeria don't even synthesize paracetamol themselves, they just get the active ingredient from overseas in bulk and then mix it with the additives and start selling 3 Likes |
