UNIVERSITY OF MAIDUGURI TEACHING HOSPITAL SPENDS N67M ON DIESEL MONTHLY — CMD

Professor Ahmed Ahidjo, the Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), said the hospital spends between N40 to N67 million on diesel.

Ahidjo made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Maiduguri.

He said since the transmission line supplying power to Maiduguri was destroyed in January 2021 by insurgents, the hospital depends largely on generators for its operations.

”The single most costly item among all the expenditures of this hospital is diesel. Averagely we spent between N40 to N67.5million monthly on diesel and the gross revenue generation for the hospital is an average of N40m.

“So, that means diesel alone takes up everything and we cannot even pay to get other consumables and drugs that we need to run the hospital which is averagely about N58m monthly,” Ahidjo said.

He urged well-meaning individuals and organisations to come to the aid of the hospital.

The CMD who lauded Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno for the efforts made to address the power challenges facing Maiduguri and its environs urged the Federal Government to hasten work on the approved 50mw Maiduguri gas power plant station.
He explained that the teaching hospital has conducted the bidding for the installation of solar-powered security lights.

For more than 10 years, several power installations have been destroyed by the insurgents.

As of September 2021, the federal government puts the cost of vandalised transmission equipment in Maiduguri, the Borno capital, at N1.7 billion.

The federal government has begun the replacement of electricity supply equipment destroyed by insurgents in Maiduguri on Jan. 17, 2021.

Maiduguri and the surrounding communities were thrown into total darkness after suspected members of the Boko Haram sect attacked an electricity tower supplying power to the city and disconnecting it from the national grid.

Specifically, the 330kV transmission line between Maiduguri and Damaturu was affected by the attack while the Damboa – Maiduguri 132kV transmission line was equally disconnected from the grid.

However, a statement issued yesterday by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), noted that with the support of the Borno Government, all the needed resources have been mobilised to the area to ensure quick restoration of electricity supply.

If this Facebook reportage is true....then i smell big lies.....#67 million for diesel even @#2k per litre is not defendable....SMH @how corruption is now a game and norm in every strata of public position in Nigeria.
thesicilian:

Don't be so quick to conclude until you're in a position to manage large numbers of people where you can't really monitor the day to day budgets of everyone. The costs may be inflated, but the facts may still remain that 67million leaves the university account every month for the purpose of buying diesel.
I'm already managing a large number of people(over 10k) and we are apolitical....so you don't know me....how do you choose to justify a glaring scam shows your kind of mindset ....please change it....we need to have the right approach to issues like this. What is wrong is wrong no two ways about it.

Zonefree:
That's over 2 million daily undecided

Interesting. Well done, CMD
Just imagine that...over 2million naira daily! SMH.
teadrake:

Trust me bro, its nothing but the truth. If you work in a federal teaching hospital, you'll understand he wasn't bluffing or cooking up those figures.
Here, it's even 3M on monthly basis that they even had to increase hospital charges for patients.
Imagine.....how do you guys justify these scams? Next time read and comprehend ......yours is 3m monthly not daily.
Zonefree:

I'm surprised you guys are justifying this scam.

Say diesel is N800 per liter. So, you mean the hospital exhaust about 2,500 litres of diesel everyday? On how many Generators?
Imagine same peeps that will cry that we have bad leadership justifying such nonsense.

BOOKWORMLUX:

Price of diesel has increased

Teaching hospitals need to have 24/7 light supply
Could be true

Also Maiduguri has been in darkness since last year, so NEPA is out of it

What is wrong with you....

InvertedHammer:

/
N2,000,000 / 850 = 2352 liters of diesel daily.

2352 / 4 liters = 588 gallons of diesel.

588 gallons / 42 gallons = 14 drums of diesel

So the hospital uses approximately 14 drums of diesels everyday. How many generators? What's the capacity and run time of each generator?

I smell a huge scam!

You just made my day....Incase you don't mind if you are interested or have someone interested in earning @least $5 daily online via a Digital Skill kindly indicate by quoting me I'm offering you a slot for a free mentorship to that....Remain blessed.

LOLz. I appreciate the offer. Thanks.

Who knows? Perhaps your monthly income as a Seniorwriter could be equivalent to my daily income.

Lolz I don't do monthly I earn daily....it was just an offer not a compulsion reason I included if you have someone with a mind that $5 daily might not be an income bar you want....howbeit having multiple streams of income is key to financial freedom in these times....good to know your daily income is equivalent to how much I earn daily times 30days......It's good to be wealthy....Lolz

There's no way they'll burn 2 million Naira on diesel daily in that hospital unless they're using 30 Generators.

3M monthly is understandable.

How many Generators are they using to burn over 2M daily?

When we keep shouting for people to vote competence, they think we just want to make noise or we don't want their person to eat money, 2023 is around the corner now, some people still don't want to apply sense of reasoning, that is why the obidient and yusuful citizens will not give up in making sure that these set of people apply sense of reasoning in 2023.

It is well

Wow, spending 40milla on diesel and generating 40milla... And the government is borrowing to maintain bills deprived from borrowing to pay salary.... Think about it... There's a ROT in the system... The new government can either gain from the loopholes and watch Nigeria nosedive till it plunges into the ground.

If their background says a lot about supporting ideas that give them an over sumptuous landing after they left office, trust me they will exploit those areas too.

Please let's get it right this time.

Vote Peter Obi

Federal government needs to run these institutions as PPP arrangement if not these evil Nigerians will run it aground.

Had this been a state government institution, I trust Babagana Zulum to have moved in and probed the CMD.
