You can continue to bask in your fantasy. I deal with facts, not emotions or sentiments. We can both continue to say a pig is pretty when it’s obvious even to the blind that the pig is dirty.

The tax gap for VAT(the difference between the potential and actual VAT revenues) is 71.2% in Nigeria. It means Nigeria is only able to collect about 30% VAT taxes from her citizens.

For corporate income tax, less than 6% of registered taxpayers are active. Nigeria raises less than 1% of GDP in VAT revenue, compared to almost 4% of GDP in the other ECOWAS countries.

If Nigerians cannot outperform people from Togo, Benin and Mali in contributing VAT to the GDP then your assertion concerning politician’s salary makes no sense. The citizens are contribution next to zero in the development of the country. This is why the country is fücked.

Look at South Africa, look at Nigeria(Giant of Africa). cheesy
I will rather leave u to the fantasy of believing once government doubles down on more taxation for the taxable population all financial problems of the country will be solved and Nigeria will prosper economically , the welfare of current and future security operatives will be taken care of and we will have workable system that will be oiled by the sweat of the tax paying citizens that are “useless” according to u.

Don't worry about the exchange rate nah, you're paid in naira cool
yesterday before I wrote this, I had withrawn as little as 300 dollars which came around 200k+ on my naira, I wanted to get a second phone for my IT tech work because my Samsung has been over used, so she needed a companion..

My budget was for redmi note 11 pro, as I reached the store 3chub, I went for the 6/128 variant, I payed 160k for it . Omo na there my first wahala started, they said that
1) that variant has finished
2) there in my front the price has changed and added to about 15k difference

I asked why they said dollar rise..

So I was given Option to be refunded, I said nah, I don come be say I don come, I went for the 8/128 variant which I paid 180k for.. after the payment, I was told the price has also been adjusted.. had to pay extra 15k for it too..

Why am I saying this.. yes I earn in forex, but man it's really shit because either way, it comes back to fvck me too because most of the stuffs here will be hyper inflated too

So later on, I was reminiscing on the fate of people that earns in naira..

1 minute silence for them cry

You are muddying the waters with this puerile rejoinder. Not once did I say all the financial problems of the country would disappear.

I only said it would go a long way to help the government execute plenty of projects without having to borrow from China.

Secondly, this is when the citizens can also have all the constitutional rights to go after the government for not fulfilling their own side of the deal.

Come to think of it, it would also energize the passive average Nigerian who’s unconcerned with politics to be more interested in where his money goes.

If 40% of the average Nigerian’s salary is taxed and he comes home in the evening without electricity, he would take to the streets to fight the government.

However, the average Nigerian pays next to nothing in taxes. This is why he’s not really bothered if there’s no light or water. He himself knows he’s not done enough to demand constant light - so he spends the remainder of what he should have contributed in taxes to purchase a generator.

Backward mentality. cheesy

As much as there is poverty in the land I agree that it's ridiculous that our tax rate is so low.

If countries like Togo, Benin and Kenya with huge poverty numbers can still pay tax then there's no reason why we shouldn't be doing better. I think another reason is tax avoidance. How many people in the tax net pay their tax? I'm not even sure up to 40% pay their dues.

That said there's the issue of double taxation. Businesses paying all sorts of dues that don't get captured in government revenue (that's if it doesn't get diverted).

I don't know if there are any experts in the real estate space, but I read somewhere that if the land use act can be reformed it can be a game changer revenue wise for Nigeria.

Illimitable:
Data reveals your countrymen’s tax contributions to their GDP is only 6% - the lowest in Africa.

You can twist it, turn it, twirl that information anyhow you like, the fact reveals your countrymen are largely irresponsible.

OECD(EU) countries make 34% tax contributions to their GDP, LAC(Latin America/Caribbean) countries make 23.1% tax contributions to their GDP.

Your country is a pathetic 6% and you are blaming the government for taxing people too much already. What that tells me is that - about 85% of the Nigerian population are useless and unproductive.

How then do you expect the government to execute big projects, build good roads, invest in infrastructure, et cetera? Where should they get the money from? Should the CBN print money to bridge the gap of the useless people in Nigeria or what do you suggest?

It’s funny to me how Nigerian citizens can admire and love how things run in developed countries but they avoid the responsibility that the citizens of developed countries undertake. The world bank’s threshold is 15% and yet Nigeria(with 200m population) are way short of the minimum to eradicate poverty.

Nigeria is fücked!

The video boils down to the fact that there are no laws, or no enforcement.

Look at Bandit warlords walking freely and journalists arranging for a chat, but nobody fit arrest am.

When I said that negotiations with terrorists should not be entertained, e be like say person no sabi anything.

Government negotiated 60 million to release 280 girls and the Warlord said that they used the money to buy more arms....Very simple

They kidnap again, you negotiate, they buy more arms..

The government is not doing anything, so its a jungle out there.

You are right about the double taxation especially in the informal sector. Lot of tax (dues) that touts levy under the disguise of local government tax are mostly unaccounted for.

FIRS and each state government needs to be up and doing, it is important that the informal sector is duly integrated into the tax system.

FIRS and other state government needs to broaden the tax net, every one must paid their tax as at when due.
Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 1:58pm On Jul 27, 2022
Illimitable, I read your takes on taxation in Nigeria and Nigerians barely paying tax. That's true but you are forgetting to faction in the aspect of governments at the state and LGA levels deliberately refusing to digitise taxation (payments, recurring payments and valuation).

Except Lagos state in recent years (and partially so), all other states have rebuffed the idea of digitisation of taxation. Most of the taxes paid to via other means are not accounted for.

Asides Lagos, the only other state which has a portal for everything taxation is Rivers State but the website is deliberately left at that. Beautiful but not functional. That's a factor you are forgetting.

Imagine have a centralised online portal for each state and/or payment via USSD.

You have to be extremely wicked or don’t have human feelings to still want APC to continue
80% of this current crop will still remain in power and nothing will change because they have to win second term if they win next year election
How we ended up with so many brainless people in power and the supposed smart ones write long epistles defending them online
I pray Nigerians are wiser and won’t sell their votes for a cup of rice

but it's still a Nigerian that is bread out of the same system that will still climb the mantle of leadership.. or are we going to hire people from Cotonou?

It's still the ones that has been hovering around the system that will still end up there at the top..

I lost interest in politics when good luck Jonathan against all odds couldn't weather the storm when his last name and events which brought him to power were luck glaring.. from ascending and climbing to the top miraculously and mysteriously.. one would have thought all those charades and mysterious events which brought gej to power would have made way for a better Nigeria.. still yet his gorvenment was one of the worst security wise as bomb blasts was the other of the day even in Abuja..

Brother, any goddamn person can be the president of Nigeria, nothing much will add or change..

It's just like saying Afghanistan or Iran will become what they re not when so so so person ascends to power..

Most of our gorvernors and lawmakers attended the best of universities and tertiary education worldwide.. but Nigeria will always be Nigeria and Nigerians will always act as Nigerians.. it's more of a way of life that one has to accept.. no need wriggling and getting worked up over it..

Only foolish people think that the father who could not take care of his 20 children with his 1M a year salary is worse than the man who could not do same with his 20M a year salary. To whom much is given, much is expected.

It’s so annoying when we talk about current insecurity challenged this administration has been unable to proffer workable solutions to; only for u to see their apologists come up with stuff like - there’s always been farmers-herders crises since the 80’s, there’s always been separatists agitations, even under Jonathan Boko Haram was hoisting flag in LGA’s in the north east ….. blah blah …. Black sheep .

I mean for 4ck sake! We are here talking about serious security challenges that has been so bad that terrorists are shooting at the air force with anti-aircraft guns, terrorists are attacking presidential guards , terrorists are taking over runway of an airport , terrorists are posting videos and pictures of their victims on open internet and they have not been challenged successfully or made to pay for these audacities.

As I dey like this, I don dey Siddon look mode. Make dem vote anybody dem want; democracy has always been a case of less conscious majority imposing their choice on the more conscious minority . Las las na the majority go still suffer the brunt.
