1. How did he not cooperate peacefully that warranted the police man to point a gun at him?

2. What should be the protocol for using a firearm on a civilian or threatening a civilian with a firearm?

This just shows how uneducated (not illiterate) Nigerians are. They can read and write but they can’t think logically.

The central theme of Rufai’s submission is that Police need training on civil engagement, not whether he is guilty or not (which he has already admitted to).

they are simply not reliable in issues like this as they are not as advanced and paired with sufficient amount of computers to begin issuing ticket instead.

i totally understand now we Nigerians needs to understand what a functional country should be like , minor default like these does need police with arm fighting like touts , our police should focus on security and use technology on things like these, he can be fined heavily for breaking the law without police presence put fine cameras on the road and leave the rest for the camera to do his job while the police focus on insecurity battling the country that what he meant by technology we no longer in the 1960 these 2022 technology have made the world advance

Besides, Nigeria police and selective arrest. They will never go after danfo and other commercial vehicles cos those ones usually settle them.

There was a day I parked behind a danfo, my car was towed yet the danfo was untouchable. They are always after private vehicles

that's the entire point. inaccurate DB is the fault of the government and the citizenry shouldn't be punished for that

like I said VIO have automated theirs, cams pick u up and document same.

He was willing to pay, which modality is in place? why is he forcefully arrested for traffic offense? traffic offenses are not violent crimes that require such force.

you see why overzealous policemen should be sent to face bandits, so they can forcefully arrest them, rather than flex muscles on unarmed citizens

even if he violated traffic laws which he admitted, why not arrest the vehicle in a civil manner or book him if he needs to pay a fine?

That's why government should strengthen institutions. If vehicle license is linked to BVN/NIN, that will be a game changer.

If you don't pay fine or go to court to defend your self, your account is blocked or the money is automatically deducted. People will sit up.

We don't need magic wand to solve our problems, there are so many innovations that will set us on the right track but our politicians are not thinking & they prefer this mess we are in.

Imagine that gun went off, A whole human being, a father would have died just because of traffic violation.

The Nigerian government does not have value for the life of its citizens.

Their criticism against rufai is simply because the guy speaks the truth against power and nothing more.

How can police get into your car and drive off. What if you have valuables there, what if he crashes the car.

The brt lane they are talking about was a federal government infrastructure and not a Lagos state own. What Infrastructure did they build for the public transport system other than those horrible bus stops. If the federal government demands for a share of the revenue from that business now, they will be crying on behalf of the man that is ripping them off. Charmed people.

Even Lagos commercial buses passes through the lanes unarrested by both police and lastma. But the moment a private car get in there, you will see how they pounce of them. Go to ojota, ketu and see for yourself.
