State universities have no business being on strike to be honest. Esut, Enugu has long withdrawn from ASUU, they are not on strike presently. State and federal governments are busy opening new schools up and down without a means to run them. I blame NUC for approving glorified secondary schools as universities.

How do you blame the union leaders when the government fail to do the right thing to avert any strikes or uprisings

This salary review was supposed to have been done since! But our selfish and wicked politicians sat on it for so many years! Much as I don't like the fact that ASUU readily resorts to strikes in their demands, it is also very difficult to blame them given the antecedents of our political class.

This is one of the reasons some of us feel that the white man ( in the west) are better humans and godlike compared to the blacks. Call it inferiority complex, I don't care! The selfless nature of the average western leader is top notch and that is why they put the general public interest above their selfish interest. A western country can never have her public universities closed for a whooping 6 months without people resigning enmasse even up to the president! That is how a progressive society works!

There should also be a clause that allows government to also be able to sack lecturers easily when they do not do their jobs.

Teaching a complex course under 2 hrs, in a whole semester should come with consequences.

There should be a system that allows students to review lecturers, if students are scared of victimization then the university alumni should be the ones doing the review based on what they experienced while still in the system.

I think the question should be who your employer is? If they are all employed by NUC then ASUU's argument is valid.

What if states are unable to pay the stipulated sum?
ASUU is skilled at what it does. State Universities are forced to join the strike but ASUU is now worried that they may be left of the strike outcome.

The State Universities should be ready to reduce their tuition fee then. I still don't know why they joined the strike ,meanwhile not all state universities are under ASUU.

State universities were represented by state pro-chancellors in the renegotiation between ASUU and FG.
ASUU fought for TETFund and today state universities are enjoying the benefits of TETFund. Some state governors are creating new universities and sourcing for TETFund in building lecture halls and other related facilities in those universities.

Now it's time to support ASUU theyre running.

How can a son marry a wife for his father without consent and association of sons(in this case ASUU) will demand the father release money for upkeep of such a wife?
This is why we must restructure but Buhari thinks he knows better.

Very appalling, you can count the Universities that pay a million plus to Professors in Nigeria owned by states and private individuals. Federal University pay for Professors is too small to behold.

Only Rivers State owned Universities pay more than a million to Professors. We can do more to boost our education. Why will Senators, representatives, local Government chairmen, councillors make more money than a Professor?

Endowment Funds should be created for individual Universities and grown to a sustainable position. Alumni has a role to also play by giving back to ensure academic institution sustainability.

State Governments with poor finance has no reason to own two or more Universities, they should be able to fund the one they have.

I doubt that, govt can fund both union without sweating in their pants if dey manage our resources well. Was it not the same FG govt that said there's no money to meet ASUU demand went on to approve 1.4billion naira SUVs for Niger republic? Ds morning on NTA news Federal Executive Council approve the sum of 2 billion dollars for Badagry seaport yet could not get money to look into ASUU demand. Our mumu don too much for ds country

You actually do not know what you're saying or you're being selfsh.
There's no where in the World where lecturers or Professors are paid the same salary.
For instance, a full Professor in UCT doesn't collect the same salaries with the full Professor in UJ.
People are paid based on many factors such as revenue capacity of the university, capacity of the Lecturers to attract funding, and living expenses in the city where the university is located.

ASUU is very wicked they know the true solution to development challenges confronting Nigeria is true Federalism.
How would the FG decides what to pay lecturers in State University. That's counterproductive to true federalism we are all clamouring for.
In most decent societies, Professors are pointed based and paid based on their ability to bring in money.
Nigeria still has long way to go with all these crooks in academic gown and useless politicians in the corridor of power.

Unfortunately, salaries are fixed in Nigeria arbitrarily, without recourse to those indices you listed. No true federalism, hence difficult to separate salaries of state and federal universities. The current salary was also negotiated and signed in 2009 for public universities. It is just the minimum that can be paid.
