But there is problem o! Cos since yesterday I've been pondering on what to get him, and up till now, I haven't been able to come up with anything. That's why I decided to share it here so that parents can help me out... we're very close, she's literally like a sister to me and the kid is also fond of me whenever I visit them, that's why I'm taking her request seriously.

At 4 years, I wasn't really aware of much. I can't remember the toys I had then.

As for the bolded, I don't think your sister meant toys. So think of wares, edibles and add a toy like bricks to it.

I'm thinking a useful gift like a pair of shoes or clothing items, something with real value he can use for a year or two. Toys don't count in my opinion sha.

I'm not a parent but when I wanted to get my neighbour's one year old kid a birthday present a parent advised clothing items, preferably an item one or two sizes larger he can grow into.

Thankfully, the store I went to had a helpful sales rep and nice outfits for kids. I loved what I ended up picking with her help (a matching Donald duck t-shirt, trousers and back pack) It gave me so much pleasure to see him decked out in it, weeks after I gifted it.

Why did you edit your post, was busy at work that's why I couldn't reply then. But what you pointed out was the raw truth. Most family members once they know you're single would want to push some certain responsibilities of their kids to you. They'll be like well after all he isn't married so he can help out.

But for me, I don't usually have any problem with that provided I'm very close to the family member and the child in question is fond of me.

Yea...I know that kids love any uncle that gives them edibles. Edibles would certainly be among was just looking for something like a toy or just anything... thanks

Are those things still on sale in kiddies store in Nigeria? Cos I do see all kinds of bicycles, toy cars, tablets, dolls...etc. I've never seen any brick toy. Anyways thanks

@ The second bolded, you are a nice guy nah. I don't care how close we are or how fond of me you are, just don't wear me out with incessant requests and a takers attitude. You know that attitude some family members have where all they do is take and take from you, never giving back in return and acting like you are a second saviour commissioned after Christ to save them in life.

You're right, this is why I prefer solitude most times so that I can enjoy peace. The current state of things in the country has made most generous people become cash conscious. In 2020 after the lockdown, give away was literally trending. Celebrities, Churches, government, wealthy Nigerians...etc were all in the give away business.

Today it's every man for himself cos everyone is feeling the heat. No thanks to Buhari. So like you rightfully pointed out one has to be prudent in sorting out his priorities and spendings.

No no no...I meant that if the cover is hard, how about the pages? They obviously wouldn't be hard like the cover so the child can tear them to pieces hours after receiving it.
