In as much as I am not cool with the use of O'level as part of the selection points which I believed should only apply to Undergraduate Scholarships, the selection process has been fair based on their criterion. PTDF is one of the few working and plain system in Nigeria.

I once applied for it and discovered that it wasn't for me as I don't have superb WAEC result even though other requirements ticked.

If you didn't get it kindly move on. Diversify your applications. The Prestigious Chevening Scholarship is ongoing, come and apply and be part of change leaders lol.

OK thank you very much. I would have really preferred Germany though I can easily get admission in France as I have already contacted some willing supervisors. I just hope waiting for the DAAD process will be worth it. Did you process your own admission through DAAD?
Yes I did but you don't have to wait for DAAD

OK. I have started reaching out to some heads of research groups in some universities
that align with my research interests already. I hope it works out

interesting view, I believe the bulk of ptdf selection is merit based though. An interesting theory u had on candidates with foreign self sponsored degree. I believe my interview went very well also, but my interviewers kept harping on about why I came back to Nigeria that I should have just continued to my 2nd degree or straight to phd and beyond abroad like my first degree.. mind u I had A's and B in waec and a C, first class first degree, 5 professional membership etc. but he kept saying there is no reason for me to be back here. In fact at a point he had to tell another panelist in another panel about my profile as I was about leaving that he sees no reason why I should here.

Liebermann:

No need for the sour grapes. There may be some who made the list due to favoritism but the majority of people made it out of merit as far as I can tell. You must understand that merit for them is also very subjective. All those calculations about O Level, class of degree, etc are absolutely not as useful as people purport them to be. If it all boiled down to that there is no way I won't be on this list. I've googled the successful candidates in my state, nothing impressive about their profile but I'm not mad about it because like I said, it's very subjective. Statement of purpose though seems to play a very big role and your program of choice is similarly important. For me, I think they may have some discrimination against people with self-sponsored foreign degrees already but it's just a theory.

This is why I kept telling people to temper their expectations. The chances are very slim and the more you convince yourself you deserve it the more devastated you'll end up being. The process looks very structured but their selection criterion is so arbitrary that it comes down to luck, grace, provenance, whatever you want to call it.

Not making the list is not the end of the world. There are so many opportunities out there. But If you really believe this is the best option you have then stop feeling sorry for yourself. Fine-tune your profile and do whatever it takes to improve your chances then try again when the scholarship is advertised in December. Congratulate those who were successful and move on.

I was asked about who sponsored my studies up to that point but I didn't think it would play too much of a role. Maybe it did and maybe it didn't, like I said, it's just a theory. I too had solid O levels, plus maximum possible scores across the board. My state is probably the most competitive in the North though so I can't really say that's why I wasn't selected.

I know one person who got the scholarship with a foreign degree but she studied in another African country so I don't know if that counts. Ironically, she graduated with a 2:2 and she was from my state. Whatever the case is, I wasn't shocked about the outcome because I was already prepared for the worst and I have a lot of things going for me anyway.

If I do choose to apply again, I'm definitely changing my program and possibly State if I can. I could switch from the UK as well but FGM doesn't really appeal to me. I'm trying to see If I can defer the admission I have now because it's for a very prestigious programme and I don't want to have to ask my tutors to submit reference letters for me again. These are the improvements I have settled on. Which State are you from and which programme and country did you apply for If I may ask?

same , can't place my hand on exactly what went wrong but another thing is also course of study and a bit of luck also if for example they wanted to choose top 5 in petroleum engineering and u came 6th in petroleum engineering but first in ur state i believe there is a high chance ur slot goes to the next highest non petroleum course till they balance up a bit and i think there is also now 1 automatic slot for the highest performing female in each state if i recall correctly....a lot of factors are considered..when i was applying i knew fgm would likely favour more than uk if am being honest but the thing is FGM doesn't appeal to me that much if am being honest. so I just decided to stick with UK, I put in for msc elect elect, from abia

congratulations! , indeed God decided to show you mercy. did you have any publication or membership of any professional body?
EbubeDelight:
Nwanne I understand how you feel, but this is not true. I didn't know anyone. I didn't trust the process, that was why I did virtual interview (not ready to risk my life and pay transport), I didn't border about admission (I wasn't ready to waste €75).

Let me give you a rundown of my profile

1. My WAEC result was not superb (the interviewer even stated that)
2. I have a first class
3. I came from one of the most competitive states in the South-East.

But here I am today dancing because God has shown me mercy.

Please trust God he will do it for you at his own time

Wishing everyone here the very best in life

I think they have a preference for novel and sophisticated programs that justify studying in a foreign institution. Just another theory. Abia must be very competitive too. I don't know if changing a state is possible or if its as easy for people in the southeast as it is in the North but other than that the only thing that can improve your chances is switching to FGM if you can fathom it. Of course, you can just tweak your SOP and try your luck again since it took some people a few tries before they finally broke through.

I don't think changing state would be possible because they have your NIN information stored in their database.

The problem isn't getting the certificate of origin from another state, but will the change be effective your NIN capture?

I feel like if you can change your SOO on the PTDF application form they won't bother to do too much of a background check. Besides, I have a legitimate claim to the indigeneship of at least four states.

Oga rest with your 2.2 please. You're from the South East where competition is very thick and you think you stand a chance with 9 credits, 2.2 Bsc and narrow escape 4.5 msc when there are people with distinctions in o level and first class in both degrees undecided

Please let's take it as a learning experience and move on. This bitterness is unnecessary. If you think your claims are founded, there's nothing stopping you from posting on twitter and tagging ptdf handles and other "influencers" and activists. I'm sure more people will support your cause if what you're saying is true.
Let me laugh it out if it is narrow escape. Let see where EyE service will end. I'm not bittered , I will only say it on how I feel as your essay states.
So your own side is less educational development? And it is narrow escape? That means if you where me, you would have less than Pass and 0.45 hehehe

Greetings,

From this discourse, one can conclude that, if you have a 2:2, probably Cs in WAEC, no publications or/and maybe 1 Membership of a professional body, then there is no need to apply for PTDF.
