You must have heard of project Thor aka kinetic bombardment

Funnily it was simple and workable, only problem was getting them to space , given the weight of the tungsten rods

A 8 ton tungsten rod on release from space would yield energy equivalent to around 12 tons of TNT on impact , impact speed would be around 8-10 Mach

Imagine 100s of such rods descending on a city , would obliterate it or rather bury it shocked

Actually there is something called bubble effect , even a smaller explosion but at a appropriate distance underneath a submarine or a ship can break them into 2

US recently applied this concept to destroy ships by launching air launched bombs not by hitting the ship but to get it to explode beneath the target ship ( first get it underneath the ship without hitting it ) and utilise the bubble effect to break the ship into two
