Many Nigerians don't know that the same set of people re behind this light Imbroglio--we are just merry go rounding !
From ECN to NEPA to PHCN now DISCOS/ GEMCO!
While Gemco is the Political arms by Govt appointees doing political jobbers, DISCOS are just distribution outlets - claiming innocence of not having enough to distribute.This is why people are blaming PDP- especially Jonathan - who sees DISCOS as Cash Cows but are given to non-experts-not capable of given lights to Millions homes on 24/7 for 365 days but only darkness with bogus billing. Unfortunately,the same set of People who invested in Discos were once in govt who couldn't solve Nigeria light problems!
Discos blames Gemco and Gemco blames Govt parastatals and institutions owning DISCOS NBillions,if not NTrillions-thereby undermining supply of lights to Companies and individuals homes, even Nations Assembly quarters, were once accused of owing NEPA!
Let all MDAS,govt Institutions ( the Police Authority,etc, Parastatals, including Universities- pay their bills),so that Discos will not give excuses again! Provision of Light is our rights,for Nigeria have been in the jungle of darkness for too long!
Discos corruption is high heaven, with Foot Soldiers on ladders and all money goes to them and their Ogas,as more leakages are having a field day- instead of Pre- paid Metres,you have intensional Estimates Billings for the boys, every month and even to get the Metres- you need to pass through the eyes of a needle,yet Govt says Pre-paid Metres are Free!
This is Nigeria- where the Industrialisation-Dream have been elusive because of Corruption and greed,since 1960s!
Dismantle all Discos,as they are operations are too rigid that the Masses are not feeling their impacts!
We all now have Generators at homes and Offices- that Ghana and Benin Republic have done away with!
There is no light for the whole week here now and someone will tell me is okay, yet we still pay money for darkness . Very Shameful ,indeed to our leaders, yet,they will park their traveling bags to Las Vegas ( City of Lights) in US,while denying the same to Nigerians.

What did they do with huge bills through on Nigerians to pay? This people almost us with estimated bill through out 2020 to early this year before we got prepaid meters. How can you give a one bedroom with no fridge and AC only two fans and energy bulbs 45k a month as bill to pay constantly.
Yet they are still owning the bank.

So the owners of these DISCOs and GENCOs didn't even have the money to buy these assets let alone have the technical know-how which we all know they don't? Along with Boko Haram insecurity, the sales of the PHCN to cronies was another failure of the GEJ government and I like the man. How you see companies like Manitoba Hydro and Ontario Hydro on ground interested and go for cronies instead just because of kickbacks beats me and shows this current democracy has been an uttter failure!

They thought power is like GSM where companies hammered big time in a short time.

I said the same thing too! GSM's own was very different as the operators were flush with cash and technical know-how which the current operators of the power assets do not even have at all! We thought it wasn't technical know-how they didn't have only, now we are now seeing they didn't even have the cash to buy the assets in the first place! Sad!

You think Bubu has the political will to dismantle DISCOs? No President who is worth his balls and is afraid of a military coup, as you obviously don't know how connected to the military these cronies are, will ever do this nor have the political will to do so! Don't ever say military coup is not a possibility, to these guys who own the assets, they don't care if they upset the apple-cart to continue to hold on to these cash cows called assets!

Well,GE did not invest because they won't have been allowed to set the price of the power without government interference....which would make it difficult for them to operate in Nigeria.

That's why we could not attract the big playas.

Sometimes, increasing salary is not the solution. Just making the system work and give money value is what can help this country such that even if you have one naira, you can be sure you get value for it.

Na your PDP under Jonathan and Peter Obi who chaired the privatisation of Nigeria's electricity disco to thieves.

Amidst the bi yearly increase in tariffs over the last 5 years , the exploitation and zero investment in power distribution infrastructure in the country. They should just admit that the power sector privatization was a colossal failure.

The only privatization that worked in Nigeria was that of Telecoms, and we know why it worked.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday inaugurated the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, with a pledge that the N167bn project would be completed in 48 months.

He inaugurated the project as thousands of road users were grounded for about three hours on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and Abeokuta-Ore-Benin Expressway.

The road users were prevented from accessing the Sagamu interchange until the ceremony ended around 12.15pm and the President left in a helicopter.

The reconstruction of the 35-year-old road is being handled by Messrs Julius Berger Plc and Reynolds Construction Company Ltd.

While the former takes charge of work from the interchange at Sagamu to Lagos, the latter will take care of the portion from the interchange to Ibadan.

The President said he was delighted that at last, work was beginning on the road and promised to deliver.

Jonathan said the rehabilitation of the road was long overdue considering the fact that it connects Lagos, the economic nerve centre of Nigeria, to other parts of the country.

The President stated that 50 per cent of the economic transactions being conducted in the country were done between Lagos – Ogun area through the 35-year-old road.

Acknowledging that the 127.8km road was long overdue for reconstruction, the President also promised that the Federal Government would intervene in the rehabilitation of other federal roads traversing Ogun State as requested by Amosun.

He said that the Federal Government in 2009 entered into a concession agreement with a concessionaire, Bi-Courtney Highway Services, as a premier Public Private Partnership scheme. He stated that the concession was terminated four years later due to non-performance by the firm.

The Discos and Gencos are run by racketeers who want quick profit. They don't want to put in any reasonable equity, they don't want to make any reasonable capital investment to improve services, they just want to extract rent. That's why they loaded up on loans. BEDC was essentially financed with almost 90% loans, meaning the owners barely put in anything but just used their connections to own assets which they milked while doing the bare minimum.

This is an infrastructure business that needs patient capital. By definition, that is equity not debt.

Mafiarism is prevalent in Nigeria more than Sicily. But you see them attend religion functions in agbada and kaftan like responsible men but they're low key gangstas.
