NigeriaB:So if all workers join politics, who will teach students? Will you employ foreigners, and pay $1000 per month for professors? If you are sick, you will pack yourself abroad for treatment or be using about? I just laugh when people keep talking about letting everybody join politics if they like. Another funny thing is saying some people are not productive cos they are seeking employment under someone. Do you guys think entrepreneurship is for everyone? I have realised time ago that our politicians cannot change to do the right things, cos they still have many ready to defend them against people asking for their right. Lest I forget, politics is not suppose to be a job, but a form of patriotic service to one's fatherland. |

NigeriaB:God bless you! I don't know why they must keep comparing themselves with politicians. If every other worker compares themselves with politicians, we will shut down the system completely. If you want to be rich as politicians, re-sign your job and go and contest and you see how it be. If there would be strike at all, I expect all the workers in the country to embark on strike against bad governance, wastage and corruption, insecurity and mismanagement of the economy. These affect everyone and will improve the lives of everyone irrespective of your income. |

dfrost:if medical consultants and other professionals go on strike the way ASUU do and with the kind of attitude they show, what do you think would become of the country? Nigeria lectures are not the only government workers poorly paid if at all they are but they make most of the noise idk if someone forced them to take the job. Other government agencies have been able to their demands without incessant strikes. Schools have been locked for more than six months! this is a show of heartlessness by ASUU. Politicians are throwing money around Nigerians are starving but at least the government increased the salaries of lectures by 100℅. Its time they go to those universities that can offer them everything they want, doctors are doing same |

N60,000 just as INCREASE? but most Nigerians will jump up for joy to get that amount monthly. What an unbalanced life. N20,000 one-off to market women and they rejoice. |

Amerengues2:Also note that Nigerian primary and secondary school teachers are the least paid in Africa. Medical doctors are the least compared to SA and other sane societies. So University lecturers are not the only least paid people in Nigeria. They should stop this noise and get back to work. They keep comparing with other countries without comparing the school fees paid else where and the cost of living. How many Professors in SA or Europe has two houses and the retirement age is 65. I don't know of anyone but they have relatively decent economy which is all what we need. I don't know of any Nigerian Professors with less than two houses and they will retire at 70 despite the high unemployment among the youth. Wicked People!!! |

PJ123:Let's appreciate cerebral and Intellectuals for once! What you also said lends further credence to the need for us all to wake up to these obnoxious rape on intellectual and hard work. Why should we be the least?! If we can't all ask questions, knowing fully well we are a rich nation (barring corruption and mismanagement), then we have failed out generation and the ones to come. So appreciate intellectuals coming out to fight for what is right. I hope you know that, with this agitation, many other cheated occupations are now coming to terms with ASUU agitation. In sum, permit my submission because not many of us are going to be intimidated by leaders who are found in deriliction of duty who fattens their pocket and yet, they feel other hardworking Nigerians should be paid minuscule amount. |

If at this point Nigerian students have not woken up to the realities of government's non- interest on this ASUU strike matters then I should be believing that they are really using juju on the entire citizens. Imagine, for more than 6 months of delayed and wasted destinies only to wake to promises and unreasonable offer. I weep for the future of this nation. From the eyes of our present leaders, our country is getting into coma. Awake Nigerians. God help us. |

Amerengues2:........ Ignoramus, a postgraduate person in American parlance is a graduate person. When you pursue or intend to pursue a doctorate degree, you must be a graduate assistant aka assistant lecturer/instructor and receive a stipend in most US universities. Now, here are: '''Requirements/Qualifications Candidates seeking appointment as Assistant Lecturer must possess a good Master's degree or excellent or a very good first degree in the relevant field. No previous teaching experience is required'''. Dummy, are you OK, en ce moment. |

Grandemperor:Lol Lol Lol Done talking with you on this. You are right! We are discussing Nigerian university here you are citing abroad. Lol. For the records, please do to federal universities in Nigeria and see that 1) Assistant Lecturers earn salaries and not stipends. 2) Graduate Assistant isn't the same as Assistant Lecturer. You will be employed as a graduate assistant first and after earning your MSC,you will get promoted to Assistant Lecturer. Stipends?! Lol. No dear, Assistant Lecturers earn salary and they have a scale. What I just told you is more than 100% facts and not you browsing. Please don't quote me again. |

Secondly:They should thank their stars that it's not private establishment. The same ASUU that are less concerned that their products are jubilating because of 30k stipend. They are comparing themselves to politicians when most of them also leave teaching for politics as if they don't know that politicians gets more pay than them. What will the government primary and secondary staff do? Not that most of them deserve where they are self. Only in one University, we have more than 300 professors not to talk of other senior lecturers. They want to compare this to politics. The same ASUU that don't want Govt to privatize public universities. Be sincere with yourself, the suffering outside is more pronounced more than what ASUU are projecting every year as if they are the civil servants. They behave as if there is no difference between public servants and civil servants. Let ASUU come out to say that they went on strike because of salary increment not revitalization brouhaha. |

Amerengues2:........ You are incorrigible! Does it matter what the income is called: wages, payment, salaries, paycheck, etc. It has been determined (sic) in Nigeria that anybody with less than a doctorate degree cannot be a bona fide member of the university teaching staff. Anyway, I stated the facts (evidence, does not mean truth, take note) about an assistant lecturer before I lifted my claim from the internet in support; it is not browsing. Does it matter whether I advert to foreign or local tertiary institution? An assistant lecturer assists as a candidate for a superior degree, and the income may come by any name. Is it laughing jackal or jack ass on nitrous oxide per lol? |
| Re: FG Promised N60,000 Increment In Professors' Salaries – ASUU by Amerengues2: 11:00pm On Aug 20, 2022 |
Lol Save yourself from this verbose screed to explain a non-existential logic that Graduate Assistant is Assistant Lecturer. They aren't the same. "a stipend is given to support someone while undergoing training or learning and isn't considered compensation for work performed" So as a matter of fact, Assistant Lecturers earn salaries and not stipends because they get compensated for work performed. Again, never equate both Assistant Lecturer with Graduate Assistant, they are different. My claim as against yours: Assistant Lecturer isn't the same as Graduate Assistant. Assistant lecturers are paid salaries. If you still contest these two facts, then what I fear may chance! Grandemperor: |
