TheGoodJoe:

I did not catch the game but read that the opposition applied a high press strategy and clearly nullified the deep playing plan of Ponferradina.

This is actually good for Kelechi Nwakali's growth because it will spur the coach to train him and the team on how to play out of a high and tight press.

My simple solution based on the theories laid out is Kelechi Nwakali dropping deeper to the central defence area to form a 3-man central defence shape. Then use long balls to exploit the gaps in the opposition defence.

Also, the keeper needs to form a tighter passing unit, to deal out long balls and keeping possession.

This will serve as a good education for Kelechi Nwakali.

Yes. You read right coz I saw the game.

Eibar nullified Ponferradina's midfield plans rendering Nwakali's MF partners, Abdulai and Medina (last season's best player for Ponferradina), almost toothless.

Ponferradina's only hope to keep things together in the middle came via Nwakali who recorded the highest passing accuracy in the game (93%).

He also was the most fouled player in the game (5 times fouled) as Eibar already knew almost every Ponferradina midfield play will run through Nwakali.

Also, he actually applied your tactical suggestion @bolded by indeed dropping much deeper between/into the defence lines (indicated by his positions map below) and looked to exploit the Eibar defensive lines with 'Long' lines-breaking passes. This explains Nwakali's high volume of accurate long balls recorded in same game. He had 8/11 accurate long balls vs Eibar all mostly from very deep positions. He also recorded the highest number of passes in same game (64).

So in all, you are right. It did prove a healthy challenge for Nwakali and Nwakali did drop deep to form an extra central defensive shield in a 3-man shape. Eibar's only goal came from a corner kick.

The Ponferradina fans also understand Nwakali needs a little more help in the middle as he can't do it all alone. The GK tried in his distribution and passing but then Medina and the others need to be on Nwakali's level, some say.

It was a good game tactically. I enjoyed seeing Nwakali adapt to the opponents.

he will be given many red cards and yellow cards in the EPL...

Awoniyi neatly won the ball from Davidson Sanchez against Tottenham and the referee blew foul against Awoniyi...

many EPL referees have racial aggression against b:lack players...

Fernandinho was card-resistent, is black and fouled anything that moved.

If you watch the Serie A, you will realise how trigger happy the refs are.

Brazilian football is like that. Ot is about dancing with the ball and talent. They should respect the Brazilian football heritage. Ever heard of Garincha the great dribbler or ronaldinho, Ronaldo etc
Nigerian football at is best also has elements of showboating. Okocha, odegbami dancing with the ball on thr touchline and in recent times chidera ejuke.
Maybe because in the past English football frowns at showboating but the premier league is niw global snd its changing. Showboating has to be tolerated

Meanwhile, Victor Osimhen to Manchester Utd may have to wait till some other time.

No bids made yet. 2 days left in the summer transfer window. A deal of this magnitude needs time to sort out the details. Osimhen stays at Napoli, for now.

The Antony deal was always gonna stretch Man Utd's budget.

And just so y'all know... Man Utd will very likely be back for Victor independent of the Ronaldo-swap deal possibility which started all of this.

Osimhen is definitely a Man Utd target and I trust he will be targeted again next summer. So case closed for this summer.

PS: Saw this and had it snapped since yesterday but decided to hold off sharing it until today.

He didn’t flop yet he was consistently abused by both man utd and Chelsea fans. My guy, he FLOPPED. this was the same player that tore Seria A last season. Man utd has such a wide range of fans that if their striker doesn’t perform immediately, they will ostracize that person. Make Osimehn enjoy small at Napoli, score 30 goals for them and the likes of Madrid, Bayern swill request for him. BTW, being the highest goal scorer for your club doesn’t exempt you from being labeled as. Flop

He did not flop in Man UTD and that's a fact!

Very irritating decision. Heard this and was like how can? He lost against heavyweights like Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool. Beat Aston Villa which is the only top side Parker did not face. And, they sack him. Such ridiculous way to thank him after he left Fulham to join them and helped them get promoted.

I hope Scott Parker gets a job soon, so we can enjoy the good footie he serves.

There are reports that his sack isn't primarily about the results, but his post match comments after the game against Liverpool. He apparently called to question the management of the club and said his players aren't good enough.
