Your point about abused children is a poor argument.
Here is why:
The abuser (that is the priest) would prefer that the tale of abuse was never made public and remained a secret so that the abuse can continue.
The fact that you know about it, that it became public knowledge, suggests the prayer, to a degree, has been answered.
