Did Jesus Pray In Tongues? by judedwriter(m): 5:03pm On Sep 04, 2022
Absolutely yes!

Although no scripture recorded Jesus praying openly in tongues, the closest to it was at the tomb of Lazarus where He groaned silently in Himself:

Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
— John 11:38

Jesus prayed most extensively in tongues for long hours, and as a result the power of the Holy Spirit was released freely through Him:

And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
— Luke 6:19

Jesus relied mostly on the Holy Spirit for the miraculous in His ministry and He laid a perfect example of prayer for all generations of Christians:

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
— Acts 10:38

Like Jesus, we are to pray more in the Holy Spirit than in our understanding.

Because Jesus prayed mostly in tongues, He became a very effective channel of God's power:

Luke 8
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯
⁴³ And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
⁴⁴ Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
⁴⁵ And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
⁴⁶ And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

We will operate more quickly in the miraculous if we pray more in the Holy Spirit than in our understanding.

A simple reason why many Christians struggle in the supernatural is because they don't pray much in tongues:

I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all.
— 1 Corinthians 14:18

Praying in tongues is the MAJOR way to pray as Christians.

A lot of problems, troubles, crisis, attacks, chaos, etc. can be averted and resolved if we pray more in the Holy Spirit.

Please which tongues?

The tongues which were being spoken on the day of Pentecost were existing languages being understood by the people around the building.

4 And (D)they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began (E)to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The Crowd’s Response
5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, (F)devout men, from every nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. 7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and [d]Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”

1 Corinthians 14:5
'Now I wish that all of you spoke in unknown tongues, but even more [I wish] that you would prophesy.
The one who prophesies is greater [and more useful] than the one who speaks in tongues,
unless he translates or explains [what he says], so that the church may be edified [instructed, improved, strengthened].

If you can't pray in tongues, just admit it.

Speaking or praying in an unknown tongue isn't your ability, it's the Holy Spirit that gives the inspiration.

Sometimes the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to speak in a foreign language like French, German, Hebrew etc.

Either to praise God, pray to Him, speak out mysteries, exhort each other, etc.

I did not argue with you who gives the gift or not.
Can you back up the unknown tongue you speak which can’t be understood by yourself or anyone?

Jesus Christ gave the gift of speaking in tongues as a sign for those who believe in Jesus Christ - Mark 16 vs 16-17. Did Jesus Christ ever proclaim that He believed in Himself? So why in the world would Jesus Christ Himself have any need to speak in a different language, let alone pray in one for Heaven's sake? undecided

Exactamundo, as a sign for the visiting pilgrims lost sheep of Israel, who upon making the yearly trip to Jerusalem for the yearly passover festival to have a chance to hear the gospel, or as it were, the Good New, in their different dialects or even different languages

The diaspora Israelites (i.e. living outside Israel) that have travelled to Jerusalem for the Passover festival, began hearing the disciples preach and announce officially and publicly, the message of the Gospel in the hearing, listening and understanding ears of each of the congregated Israelites (i.e. Acts 2:5-11)

The disciples never until that point in time moment had prior ability to communicate in those tongues before. It was all surprisingly new to the disciples, as much as it was amazing to all who heard the disciples coherently speak in almost everyone of the Israelites diaspora's dialects, tongues and languages (i.e. Acts 2:12) and with what looked like, cloven tongues, that was, as if, of fire, hovered above their heads (i.e. baptism of fire)

Jesus would have spoken at least three different languages, namely Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek. Would, hazard adding a bit of Latin to His repertoire of tongues list

That isn't what Jesus Christ said either. undecided

Again, Jesus Christ gave the sign of speaking in a foreign tongue as a sign to indicate that one believes in Him. Meaning that all those who, even today, commit their life to submitting and obeying Jesus Christ's teachings and commandments, will speak in a foreign tongue. He never said it is exclusively exclusively for the entertainment of pilgrims or any of that anyone claims. undecided

Leviticus 26:33
'But I will scatter you among the nations
and will draw out a sword after you as your land becomes desolate and your cities are laid waste.
'

Jeremiah 31:10
'Nations, hear the word of the LORD, and tell it among the far off coastlands! Say:
The One who scattered Israel will gather him.
He will watch over him as a shepherd guards his flock,
'

Jeremiah 50:17
'Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away:
first the king of Assyria hath devoured him;
and last this Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath broken his bones.
'

Acts 2:38-40
'38Peter replied,
“Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins,
and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 This promise belongs to you and your children and to all who are far off
— to all whom the Lord our God will call to Himself.”
40With many other words he testified, and he urged them,
“Be saved from this corrupt generation.”
'

When you join the dots, its becomes a no-brainer to know that Matthew 15:24 and Mark 16:17–18 culminated to be, one third fulfilled on Pentecost day, a momentous day when quite a lot of the scattered Israelites would have been in attendance, due, having to be present for the yearly Pentecost festival (i.e. Exodus 34:22, Leviticus 23:15-22, Deuteronomy 16:16 and 2 Chronicles 8:13)

The scattering of Israel according to God's declaration in His Old Law of Moses has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ's declaration that those who believe in HIm will speak in different languages in His Gospel. undecided

Jesus Christ warned His followers against attempts to store New wine in Old Wine Skin and vice versa, since the Old Law, the Constitution of the Nation of Israel is a Covenant and Law meant for a Kingdom that is of this world - the Nation constituted of the people of Israel in the Land of Canaan - whereas God's New Law is instead the Gospel and Law in a Kingdom not of this world, the Kingdom of God. Both are eternal covenants yet different and separate. undecided

Again, the gift of tongues is a sign bestowed by Jesus Christ on all those who are His followers - both Gentiles and Jews - and this sign, along with other signs mentioned, is to follow them wherever they find themselves in the world. It doesn't matter what is written in Acts of how the gift was viewed at a certain time or used. What is of importance is that the gift is bestowed by Jesus Christ as part of the eternal Covenant that is God's New Law and Gospel in the Kingdom of God. undecided

Absolutely yes? No scripture?

1. Sir, what language did Paul speak to the crowd at Lystra?

When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian language, "The gods have become like men and have come down to us." And they began calling Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds.

But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men of the same nature as you, and preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them”.

2. Sir, What language did Jesus speak when he responded to the Syro-Phoenician woman?

Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre. And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it; yet He could not escape notice.

But after hearing of Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet. Now the woman was a Gentile, of the Syrophoenician race. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. And He was saying to her, "Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."

3. Sir, could you tell me what language Jesus adopted when he spoke to this Decapolitan man and the Decapolitan crowd in the texts below?

Again He went out from the region of Tyre, and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, within the region of Decapolis. They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they implored Him to lay His hand on him. Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva; and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him, "Ephphatha!" that is, "Be opened!”

And He gave them [the crowd] orders not to tell anyone; but the more He ordered them, the more widely they continued to proclaim it.

4. Sir, when the Pilate asked Jesus the questions in the texts below, what language did Jesus respond in?

Therefore Pilate said to Him, "So You are a king?" Jesus answered, "You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."

Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?"

So Pilate said to Him, "You do not speak to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?" Jesus answered, "You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above; for this reason he who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."

As a result of this Pilate made efforts to release Him
