Contrary to the pronouncement by the minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Ali Pantami, that the five percent telecom levy had been suspended, the director-general of the Budget Office, Ben Akabueze, has maintained that the tax remains in effect as the Budget Office of the Federation and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning had not been advised about the suspension. https://leadership.ng/budget-office-dg-contradicts-pantami-says-5-telecom-tax-stands/ 1 Like

In Buhari’s government, orders given the leaders over the media and in writing are usually not implemented at the grassroots. Only Buhari’s body language is obeyed. 1 Like 1 Share |

Maybe they will soon Tax Air that we breathe. We need to elect Leaders who dont just depend on Borrowing and Taxation to raise money. A man who has not built a successful business from the scratch that has existed for more than 20 years, such a fellow is unelectable 17 Likes 1 Share |

The 5% tax is unnecessary. Nigerians are already overburdened. Taxing to be looted by the high and mighty. Isa Pantami stood on the side of the people this time or he wasnt carried along in the sharing of profit? It is improper that every arm of government in this administartion lack coordination. Everybody doing as they care and want. 21 Likes 7 Shares |

Little wonder why this govt performed woefully? There you have it, It's always their signature move, from their overall oga to the least of them, always singing discordant tunes. So bad that people have to wait for 3days to confirm any of their pronouncements as there is always a counter pronouncement after the first. Everyone pulling in different directions, zero unity of purpose. Still a reference point for failure |

If only they have judiciously managed the resources we have, they wouldn't be running Helter skelter in a bid to further tax the already burdened masses. |

Tinubu's boy is speaking. Ben Akabueze, former Commissioner for Budget and Planning in Lagos. Yet, they say Tinubu wants to Islamize Nigeria. Is it that there is no qualified Yoruba or Muslim that can hold that position before Tinubu nominated Ben Flattino Akabueze as Commissioner for Budget and Planning in Lagos and later handed him over to Buhari as DG Debt Management Office and later DG Budget Office? Possibly the Pantami knows it has not been suspended but just wanted to say such so as to score some cheap political point for their evil party since election is here… Make una no worry if by any chance Timubu enters as president na that time all of us go know the true meaning of taxation. Tinubu almost nothing in Lagos than creating avenues for tax. |

HIPROFILE: Tinubu did almost nothing in Lagos, yet you are ran from your village to Lagos. Even when Tinubu's boys Fashola and Aregbesola abducted several of your brethren all over Lagos and Osun and dumped you at Upper Iweka Bridge Head Onitsha at 2:00AM, before 2:10AM, you have all jumped into the next available Mallam Audu's trailer moving Cows to Lagos? Why is it that as Yorubas pray to go to Heaven, your parents pray to go to Lagos? 3 Likes |

Nigeria has some of the cheapest data and call rates in the world. We also have one of the lowest tax to GDP ratio's in the world. I think I pay N6k for 50G of data per month, half of which I can't exhaust. A 5% tax will increase the cost to N6,300. I think that's fine. 1 Like |

There is no contradiction. The Budget Office DG said that the instruction to suspend the collection hasn't been communicated to the Ministry of Finance as it was only seen on the media. So this sensationalist headline is quite unnecessary. He further said that if the suspension is approved, then they will need to revise the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) which is being reviewed by the National Assembly, as it would mean that the projected revenue for 2023 will drop and that there will be need to either borrow to fund the gap in revenue or they will have to cut down on expenditures. Personally, I am surprised with the suspension by President Buhari. We need to boost government revenues and taxation is one of the fastest ways to achieving this. Our data in Nigeria is quite cheap compared to other nations of our development category. We need to fix things fast. 2 Likes |
