These are the few that benefited from slave trade. Mind you! Africans sold Africans.
And they still do till date.

Tinubu the descendant of slave traders is not on the corridors of power for nothing.

The slave pact made decades ago still remains.

Interesting story

But I find it hard to believe that the Queen went to Ijebu Ode, and there is no picture of this historic visit

Aunticate this story by posting a picture of the Queen visiting Ijebu Ode as such visit would been groundbreaking at the time
Not only that, the queen never visited Nigeria in 1956 nor 1960. See below

Why's the house supposedly built in the 50s in coloured pictures but the one with the queen is in black and white? Propaganda is the word here.
If a house has been in existence since 1939 and it was pictured then, do you except the picture to come out in coloured photograph?
The house still exists till today and has been renovated, pictured with modern devices.....please what do you expect?

That was when she came to Nigeria to plead for a loan from Ojukwu's dad who was the richest man in Nigeria then.
Please show us Ojukwu’s father’s house/mansion/castle be it as it was or as it is now.

There's a difference between slave trade and colonialism, these are 2 distant eras. The queen never enslaved any Africans, before everybody becomes an online activist, try to get proper knowledge.

Perhaps Mary Slessor too shouldn't have stopped the killing of twins in Nigeria because African societies were "perfect" undecided

Colonialism was what ushered Africa into the present stage of enlightenment and development. What would we achieve without Christianity and education?

Just like the Uju woman insulting people up and down on Twitter, most of you love to deceive yourselves.
Even though I believe colonialism help Black Africa in accelerating our political, education and social development, the British were only did it for selfish reasons. They taught us English and administration instead of science and technology in order to make us better clerks instead of scientists and technologists. They forced Christianity on us as against our own cultures and belief systems in order to enslave our minds forever.

Ever wonder why they translated the Bible to local languages but never books on mathematics, science and technology?

Now that we are independent, why have we refused to translate those books to Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa? Will they flog you if you decide to do it?

We blame the Colonialists for everything, but we still expect them to be the ones to have given us a perfect foundation, it's not possible. Nations must continue from where they were after independence.

Hold your thieving leaders responsible, no be the late queen be una problem.

“I read, I read, I read…”. You read something written by the same white man that enslaved you then took it as your history. A lot of you have mental issues. I really think the problem is low self-esteem.
You sound intelligent, but you didn't make any point. Please how can I know about history without reading?

your ignorance is unbelievable...

the colonialists used religion ( christianity ) to enslave Africans...

Africans already had their own education because Africans had their own indigenous languages...

Colonialists used their religion and education to ensure generations of unborn Africans continue to be enslaved even without them ( colonialists ) been present that is why in your head you have created a good version of the colonialists which you call "missionaries" and a bad version which you call "colonialists" no one forced you to create a good version or bad version you just did it on your own because the education you got came from them...

you're mentally enslaved..

foreign education and religion was created to create people like you ( people who will defend their enslavers without knowing it.)
Chai! Ignoramus just full nairaland
For your info, the whites came to Africa first as merchants( slave traders) secondly as missionaries n finally as colonists. This variety of whites came at different point in time n have completely different purposes for engaging Africa.
The whites that colonized Nigeria for instance were the British but they met missionaries from Portugal, France n Ireland already in Nigeria……The colonial masters cared nothing about wether Nigerians were religious or not.
You really need to go n read up a good ground work of Nigerian history so you can developyy that brain of yours n also stop disgracing your family here on nairaland cos of sheer ignorance ….
Common sense should tell you that if truly the colonist used Christianity to colonize Nigeria , then the northern parts of the country would be majority Christians, cos the north was one of the first places to be conquered by the British. It goes to prove that the colonial masters were not interested in religion hence the reason why they allowed Islam to thrive in the north despite conquering them.

When Queen Elizabeth came to Nigeria In 1960 before the independence, we reveal to you where she passed the night.

When we talk of Nigeria history, the Ijebu people will always be noted as one of the wealthiest Billionaire tribes and there is in another dimension as they’ve been rich right from the pre-colonial era.

One of the Notable billionaire of the old who flexed their dough hard includes Ijebu born businessman and philanthropist, Timothy Adeola Odutola. Before we go into the evergreen edifice this man built, we would love to run a short profile of him.
Chief Timothy Adeola Odutola (1902- 95) Is a prominent businessman and Philanthropist from #Ijebu-Ode.

He attended St Saviours Primary School Italope and Ijebu-Ode Grammar School. He started work in the Colonial Service and later went into business selling damask and fish.

He became a Produce buyer opening large storage units and transportation lines. By 1960 he had created a conglomerate including three factories, a retail franchise, a cattle ranch, a 5,000-acre rubber and palm oil plantation, a sawmill, and export business.

Chief Odutola became so rich that he had a personal relationship with the father of Queen Elizabeth, George VI.

In 1956 during her Official visit to Nigeria, the Queen of England; Queen Elizabeth II was scheduled to visit only Ibadan, Enugu and Kaduna as the regional capitals.

Queen Elizabeth requested her visit be rerouted to include Ijebu-Ode to enable her to visit Chief Timothy Adeola Odutola, the Ogbeni Oja, her father’s friend who usually wined and dined with the royals at Buckingham Palace.

She passed a night at Ijebu-Ode and what a privileged visit indeed. Behold the Adeola Odutola Lodge, Ijebu-Ode (built, 1939).
