This clearly shows Ikwere was Igbo before the war.

The man was saying that Ibos of the Eastern region are not opposed if PH was included in a proposed Rivers state. That the people against the inclusion was the PH branch of Ibos. And that they have the right to be against it because they constitute 90% of the town. Incase you don't know the 'Ibo' that constitutes 90% of PH, that's Ikwere! The other 10% are ijaw and ogonis

So clearly, Ikwere protested to Zik that they don't want to be included in a Rivers state. The headline on the newspaper simply means that since PH township comprised of Ibo, Ijaw and Ogoni areas, that it can't be called an 'Ibo' town even though they constitute 90%, but a town belonging to all Rivers people.

It is also curious that people who dress like this as their traditional attire are not igbos.

P.s. there is 'no igbo person' in these photos.

This thread is to establish the sentiments of Ikwerre people before the civil war through a dated publication.
The result? Ikwere started denying being igbo after the war

But even more curious was that Obasanjo skipped Peter Odili for Goodluck Jonathan in 2007 primarily for 'being Ibo'.

Yep, but they cannot trust people who steal and cheat and sabotage their own... like Wike, like Amaechi....

That's what Ikwerre don't get... if you like rename all your towns with R, you cannot escape your identity and "Rivers" is not any identity except CORRUPTION and SABOHOOD

90% Igbo inhabitants, yes; but does that make it an Igbo town? If Okota is 80% inhabited by Igbos does that make Okota and Igbo town or an annexation?

Their grouse here according to what I read is that the they ‘deserved to be consulted’ on the state creation but you have chosen to twist the story to promote your narrative

You clearly do not understand the post. Shows everyone that people like you who fight Igbos are doing so from a place of ignorance.

Read the post, understand it, then comment. That's how you show intelligence and integrity

90% of PH in 1956 was Ikwere! That's my point. In 1956 they saw themselves as 'Ibos' and resisted being drafted in a Rivers state

lol. They were part of Ibo union in 1956! Thats the whole point! Gosh!
And yes they protested that they were not consulted before being included in a Rivers state that would be dominated by the Ijaw.

Ikwerre wasn’t a tribe then but a settlement/town that was 90% Igbo. I see your point. They migrated to the town

The Ikweres are not migrants to PH. They are the natives of 90% of the land. They were seen just as any other Igbo people as at the 1950s.

Things later changed after Gowon created a Rivers state that included them. They found themselves surrounded by Ijaw and Ogini. Something like a fish surrounded by sand.
In order to survive the Ijaw domination, they decided to deny the Igbo tag. Nigeria quickly helped them and by 1979, they became registered as a tribe.

I won’t swallow this pill cheesy

How many bombs did FG drop on Ikwerre during the war?

Anyways, Ikwerres are Igbos (mostly), agreed

The wahala is when you equate being Igbos to being part of Biafra

That’s where the vawulence always begins

1914 Niger Area ( from two colonies) magically was named by White Ashawo as Nigeria
1960 This Ashawo named country magically was granted independence
1979 Ikwerre magically became a tribe….
2023….. The stupid and meaningless name “Rivers” state is being thought of as representing Corruption and SABOHOOD

being igbo should mean being Biafra.
However, being Biafra is not the issue Ikwere has with us though. Biafra wasn't a thing until 2013. But Ikwere became a separate tribe in 1979.
Their issue with us is that the Ikwere survivors of the Biafran war severed ties with Igbos and many their children today want to keep it that way because of oil politics.

It’s difficult to make that equation because it won’t be practical. Eventually you’ll have more citizens in diaspora than at home.

Biafra is geographical, so the equation of Igbos to Biafra makes it difficult to determine its geographical limitations based on how successfully Igbos migrate.

I try to avoid this discussion.

The point of this thread is to establish when such denial started. We can clearly see from the news here that they weren't denying their Igboness as at 1956.

there are more British people in Diaspora than in Britain. It is estimated that about 150 million British people live in Diaspora.
Igbos can be all over the place and Igboland can still be independent.
However this thread is not about Biafra but Igbo and Ikwerre relationship

To the igbos, keep destroying your own cities and make them as uninhabitable as possible…. Then feel free to claim other cities (Like Lagos and Port Harcourt) afterwards.

You can’t blame me for goin to those ‘places’

Agreed, but the vast majority of Igbos don’t see it as you do, they’ll lay claims to territories they migrated to and currently occupy. Part of the reason the agitation has always failed is trying to expand the territory beyond the SE states. This issue is too divisive and exhausting. If a referendum is carried out, the territory will expand beyond FG’s imagination grin

At the bolded. Which territories do we lay claim to just because we migrated there?
I attached the map of Igboland. It occupies 102 Local Government Areas, both in Rivers, Delta and Edo(Igbanke)
It is not that big anyway, just 5% of Nigeria's landmass. Should be easy for Nigeria to forfeit

which yeye oil politics. The igbos have carved for themselves a name many of their sub group would not want to associate with.
How do you want an Ikwere man to be part of Biafra by force because you feel he's Igbo. They'll rather be Ikwere than to succumb to the Biafra axis. You don't drag people to yourself, Ikwere knew they have Igbo root but say they're not Igbos.

Does the Igboman have bad reputation in Nigeria, yes! But that is because of Nigerians' ignorance. The Igbo has not been aggressive (never been violent) nor retrogressive (not backward).
Ikwere knows they are igbo is a good revelation from you, and that's what this thread wants to expose
