You're very silly for making such utterances that would continually threaten our peaceful coexistence. Oponu
You and who wan peacefully coexist? We will soon give Biafra their independence. But we will only allow them go with their 3 and half IGBO indigenous States.

Which are Ebonyi, Imo, Abia and half of Enugu. Anambra and half of Enugu are IGALA ancestral Land and the North will soon reclaim it. grin grin

I am sorry to inform you that NIGERIA can NEVER be fixed. Its foundation was faulty from the beginning and you do NOT pile up on top of a building with a faulty foundation. The ONE and ONLY options are to tear the building down and start from scratch. Nigeria is made up of people with different ideologies and belief systems that are very incompatible. Could you tell me any country that you know of that gets worse as each year goes by instead of improving? It's no secret that Nigeria of 2000 is way much better than Nigeria of 2022 and you think things would get better? I do NOT think so!

thebosstrevor1:
you are actually right

anyway, this is what a Lebanese wrote on reddit on how the banks got the deposit

The Ponzi scheme

back in spring, summer 2019, banks started telling people , come put your money with us , we shall give you 10% interest on usd account, or even better switch to LBP and we give u 17% rates. so people were like wtf thats so cool , why work when you can get x amount while doing nothing. This strategy not only targeted locals, but expats outsides. Millions and milions of usd were brought in and put in banks here for the juicy looking interest rates. Imagine you have 100k in usd , you put them in the bank and get 10% a year while doing nothing so 100k would get u 10k a years almost 830usd a month while sitting taking a crap on your toilet. Now imagine someone with millions... get my point?

and then on oct 17 th 2019, they implemented capital control and blocked all those millions in the banks...

2) then devaluation

Hello all, pre 2019, Lebanon was a beautiful country (still is Nature wise... for now)...

We had it all, nightlife, food, entertainment, security (sort of), winter skiing, beaches, everything.

At the moment we barely have running electricity, internet. Medications are missing. Hospitals running on back up generators.

Our currency devalued from 1,500 lbp = 1usd , to currently 24,000 lbp = 1usd. Banks don't allow us to withdraw our saved usd. Everything has become extremely expensive.

The country we know as Lebanese pre 2019 is a distant memory. Mass depression is everywhere , like literally booking a therapist these days takes you 1/2months in advance to find vacancy.

The middle class has been decimated.

We have two types of USD here , "fresh" usd and local usd stuck in banks that they don't allow us to withdraw.

Example: my dad worked 40 years saving money and now they are stuck in the bank and capital control doesn't allow us to withdraw not more than 300/400$ a month and they give it to us in Lebanese pounds at a rate of 8000lbp = 1usd , where the black market rate is 24000lbp per 1 usd.(its an indirect hair cut to our savings)
i am sorry to hear that, but sadly you are not alone...the same happened in Argentina a few years ago, and they had it worst...as the bank couldnt repay the money after the devaluation, so they instead gave every bank customer "bank bonds" for the amount of money they had in the bank... these bonds were worthless unless you waited 7 yrs to cash them. so a bond for 1000pesos was only worth 200pesos at the time, but if you waited 7 yrs, they would be worth 1000pesos. sadly, because majority were broke, they needed to sell these worthless bonds in order to buy food etc. so the rich people (who saved their fortunes in foreign banks) came and said "we will give you 300/400pesos for your worthless bonds"... so they bought these bonds at 300/400 pesos then sat on these bonds and waited for 7 yrs to double/triple their investments.

Re: Lebanese Citizens Are Robbing Their Banks To Withdraw Their Own Money (Photos) by grandstar(m): 5:16pm On Sep 15, 2022
Lebanon has a major problem: it has very weak governments, so never gets much done and most importantly, never makes hard decisions.

Lebanon has for decades been living way above its means but the government could not make the tough decision of downsizing its bloated civil service which was the primary cause its huge budget imbalance.

When the financial crisis hit, in order to mitigate the pain on its citizens - the govrrnment introduced subsidies

This was the nail in the coffin. Subsidies cost money to implement. A bankrupt government has no business introducing subsidies. It will simply increase the gaping hole in the governments finances while giving nothing back in return.

Subsidies are also very difficult to end as we have seen in Nigerian, even when under a dictatorship. With consistently weak governments in Lebanon, the subsidies may be here to stay.

This is the direction APC is gradually taking this country. Debt servicing cost is already more than our income. May APC never happen to Nigeria again. Amen

The only economic lesson from this event is that cash is king cheesy E-naira, e-wallet, bitcoin wallet, bla bla will not displace the place of cash anytime soon.

Funny thing is Nigerians are currently facing a similar trend; the only thing is that we don't have issues with our local currency yet. But try withdrawing $200 cash from any of the banks around. Imagine having $8,000 in your account and you're being told that you can't withdraw more than $50 or $100. This is the situation in Naija.

I don't support threatening a bank staff with guns but desperate moments really call for desperate solutions.
I too noticed that it has become difficult of late to withdraw $$ from banks. This is something that I anticipated a few months ago when the Naira started it's nose-dive. As far as I can see, the only way to insulate yourself from what is about to come is cryptocurrency, USDT being the most preferable.
