Police in Abakaliki have just dispersed the Obidient rally about to kick off in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, reportedly on the orders of the State government. Tear gas cannisters have been fired at the crowd and people are running helter skelter.

BREAKING: Police teargas, disperse Obi supporters in Ebonyi

The Police in Ebonyi State on Saturday violently dispersed residents who gathered in Abakaliki, capital to stage a one-million man match in support of Labour Party(LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Obidient movement, as the supporters are popularly called, had gathered at the Pastoral Centre, Abakaliki for the march when police stormed the area and dispersed them with teargas.

The incident caused human and vehicular traffic on the popular Old Enugu road in the capital city on Saturday morning.

One of the supporters, Steve Ugama, alleged aside dispersing and tear-gassing the supporters, about five of his colleagues have been arrested by the police.

He said: “This is inhuman and undemocratic. We have gathered here this morning for our peaceful March, all of a sudden, the police came and started tear-gassing us and arresting our people.

“They said we can’t hold the march, because Governor David Umahi asked them to stop us, that we can’t hold it. About four or our colleague have been arrested. We need help here.”

However, the supporters later regrouped in another part of the town and continued the march.

At the time of this report, they were seen on the Enugu-Abakaliki highway.

The Police will put themselves at the receiving end of peoples anger again as was the case during The ENDSARS. They're overreaching.

The biggest mistake the establishment will ever make in this country is to underate the anger oof the ordinary people of this country.
People are tired an are just hoping on the elections to bring in some hope!
The two candidates of the two major parties are all uninspiring.

If the government moves against the only candidate that has brought hope and energy into this campaigns, the reactions from the people might ultimately instigate a chain of actions that will unravel this lugardian contraption.
