Kasssandra:Subsidy and refinery repair are not in each other's way as you are portraying here. Before subsidy cost rose, they said there wasn't money. Now it is high, there isn't still money as they claim, but they could have fixed at least one refinery when the subsidy was still lower compared to its current state. |

Realist12: Don't you have shame? Why should APC remove subsidy at all? Isn't it the same APC/buhari/Tinubu that protested against Jonathan removing subsidy? Where are the refineries APC/buhari promised Nigerians? How is buhari paying subsidy, the same subsidy he called a fraud? |

CyberHustle: Okay, let's break it down Suppose you were selling exercise books at N200 per book, after buying them N100 from supplier, who bought them N80 from manufactuer Government steps in and tells you to sell that exercise book at N20 instead of the N200 you were planning to sell it...and pays you a subsidy of N50 per book.... Where would you get the money to pay the supplier., and where would supplier get money to pay manufacturer. When subsidy started, we had 2 working refineries, today we have 4 non-working refineries. If that does not tell you something..... |

Kasssandra:Have you eaten today? I asked because govt is not short paying the middlemen. You clearly manufactured that lie(about paying N50 instead of N180 in your illustration) to sell an unsellable point. |

mrvitalis: Address the issues raised. Buhari has been wanting to remove the subsidy based on his promise. Organised Labour opposed him. Now their candidate is singing the same Buhari tune and they are keeping quiet. Are they hypocrites? Are they just interested in grabbing power and forgetting their fight for the masses? Those are questions begging for answer. 1 Like |

Kasssandra:If you remove the subsidy,it means nigerians will buy directly imported fuel which goes above #450 per litre! The resultant effect is hyperinflation! Nigerians and the economy will not survive if any president attempts to remove fuel subsidy without repairing the refineries! Pandemonium is inevitable! Endsars protest will be childs play compared to what might transpire! We cannot keep paying for the incompetence and negligence of an FG that have refused to get their priorities right! Nothing was preventing the FG from getting funds to either repair or build new refineries! A state in the US has 47 refineries and we are grappling with just one refinery which may not be enough to serve everyone! Nigerians are not the ones that stopped them from building new refineries since this administration started! Kasssandra:Is our crude oil imported? Do we not have crude oil for domestic consumption? Once local production begins, the 'landing cost' at the port will be taken out! Achieving cheaper diesel and fuel is possible when more players come into a deregulated system which is already at work! Let us start local production first and let the private refineries like dangote compete, this will drive down the price eventually! 1 Like |

There is no subsidy, it's a scam This is why they won't fix the refineries because it will expose the fact that subsidy is a scam. Obi is a disappointment, he is not talking of fixing refineries but increasing hardship. Is it because he is being subsidized? |
Re: Subsidy Removal: Keyamo Tackles LP, Obi Over Proposal by Nobody: 8:15pm On Sep 17, 2022 |
openmine: I myself know that what you are saying is true. I too would love it if we sold fuel at 20 naira a liter. But the fact is, paying for subsidy is creating a big hole in our budget , fuelling corruption and losing us a lot of money and jobs every year. And indirectly worsening the value of the naira. Plus we are spending billions subsiding fuel for all our neighbors because smuggling. Either we keep subsidy and keep on getting more of the above or we remove subsidy and at least stop paying people free money to loot plus we in essence incentivise domestic refining. With the resulting increase in jobs and income for all. Choose the medicine. I'm sorry for sounding so harsh, but subsidy has to go. Thanks to high oil prices we have spent twice as much as we spent last year on subsidy, and the year is not over. We can disagree here sans rancour. |

greenermodels: That is not the issue here. He is calling Obi and Labor party hypocrites as Obi's decision to end the subsidy is anti-labor and therefore against what the party stands for. I too jumped to your conclusion until I chose to thoroughly read the article. 2 Likes |

rusher14:So how were they able to repair the PH refinery? I'm not saying that bringing in the private owners to build refineries is a bad idea...However,the FG can also build or repair theirs as a means of generating their own IGR! Where there is competition, the fuel price and others will gradually fall! |

drlateef:You can believe what ever you wish to believe But in his record in the private sector and public sectors he has proven to be a good manager of funds And his plans for the subsidy funds convince people like me and nlc to trust him Basically we can't expect everyone to understand and accept that .... Call him liar or not obi can't be said to have stolen public funds ever ,didn't get miraculously richer after joining politics We trust Peter obi ...if you don't trust him that's your business |

Kasssandra:I also understand where you are coming from and i honestly want the subsidy out today because of the humongous hole it has created! However,Nigerians must not be be beneficiaries of consistent sufferings due to the continuous negligence of our past and present leaders to do what is right! If the government has been true to their words to repair and build refineries from the beginning of this administration or past administrations, fuel subsidy will not be mentioned by now! Look at what is happening to the price of aviation fuel and diesel that have been deregulated...The last i heard about a flight price was a 100k.....Now imagine when Nigerians start buying fuel at #450 per litre! My question to you is how will Nigerians be able to afford food products that are heavily dependent on the price of fuel if the subsidy is removed today? |
