It means he is from a family of Monks. Osu people are not outcast as wrongly propagated. They are monks in the dedicated life to serve the devine.

You find this practice in many other faiths like Buda monks, Hindu monks and Catholics. Infact, a Catholic priest is like an Osu. Normal, Osu are separated from People, not because they are unclean, but because they are sacred. Just like priests are seen.
