He Lied About Genotype. Should He Be Forgiven? by AquaPetals(f): 9:50pm On Sep 18, 2022
My sister dated this guy for 6 years. They planned on getting married December. Both did blood tests yesterday and her fiancé turned out to be AS. She is AS as well.
She was shocked because the guy initially told her he was AA. In fact she only agreed to sleep with him for the first time because he promised her marriage and when she inquired then about his genotype, he lied about it.
Now he says his genotype must have changed. My sister is devastated right now. I told her to go ahead with the marriage and plan for adoption.

Why would you give such advice? Is your sister blind or have any form of disability? Let them go there separate ways! No woman will ever agree not to have her own biological child when there's no any complications from her end, such advice is disastrous! Sickle cell is real please pity the unborn children.

That statement in bold is a lie.. Not every woman out there has a desire to birth kids. undecided

I actually think his advice a good one so his sister decides before hand if she is willing to in fact live with the consequence of going ahead with the relationship. undecided

You think all risks are mitigated by planning to adopt children?

If both of them are medically fertile, the risk is still there because even contraceptives sometimes fail. Except they plan to abort any pregnancy that comes with failure of contraceptives. Or they are ready for hysterectomy or vasectomy.

it's better they go their separate ways.

Are they rich?
Can they afford IVF?
If they can, they can go ahead and marry and just do the genetic testing on their embryos
If they can't, they should part ways because I doubt if both of them will collectively agree to any adoption.
If he didn't lie, then it's not his fault
Many people have been told the wrong genotype in Nigeria, and only find out later in life as in this case.
Unless he just assumed he was AA, which is wrong on his part.
I'm not sure he would deliberately lie and get serious with your sister over the years, but people have behaved worse

You are evil. You want your sister to suffer for life while nursing SS children. What has your sister done to you to deserve such hatred by you?

If you meet a lady that has damaged or even removed her womb through numerous abortion and claiming she doesn't want to have kids, only you is falling for your own lies

You didn't give consideration to the innocent child your sister will bring forth and the extent of anguish he/she will go through in life, regardless of whether they are adopted or not.

Next, you will advice your sister to have as many kids as possible, without considering if she and her husband has the wherewithal to give them adequate care, attention and love, including investing time to teach them and raise them to be human beings.

Society has become so dysfunctional because of the decisions that married people make inside "za oza room".

If they are buoyant enough they should do ivf, no need throwing away the relationship as they would have invested alot in it after soo long. But if they don't have money they may have to separate.

Stop being ridiculous! undecided

There are women out there who would rather not have kids but because they live in a society where childbearing is seen as the purpose of a woman, they cave in as a result of pressure. And then there are those who understand and accept that children are merely burdens/responsibilities that individuals ought to ensure they are ready, capable of bearing and able to. undecided

The mistake might be from the lab that conducted the genotype test. Not uncommon.

They should go their separate ways.
Good luck to them.

my sister is 36. She had to wait for long before getting this current man to propose to her. If she cancels the marriage, I don't know long it would take her to find another reasonable husband to marry.
They won't nurse SS children if they adopt rightly.
BTW, is there a way to know the genotype of a foetus before delivery?

But guys, what is this about sex before marriage.

They should've done genetic tests way before now or what have they been doing during their 6-years of dating?

If they've the means for IVF, or don't mind adopting (albeit most women want their own biological kids), they could proceed, otherwise the smart thing would be for them to part. I understand they might not want to, as they've dated for 6-years, but 6-years is nothing compared to a lifetime of living with the consequences of their decision.

Her fiancé kept insisting he was AA all these years.
Yes, they have the means for ivf. Do think it could detect an SS embryo?

My spouse lied about their genotype. I had to forgive and move on. However there is still a lingering feeling of distrust and it will likely never go away.

What sort of advise is that? If they are not concerned about the health of the kids, aren't the concerned about the medical bills they'll spend to raise SS kids that may die anytime? That bill alone is horror.

That aside, I've been down this road before and I know if a person lies about their genotype, they're definitely lying about something else.

Assuming you're her sole adviser I am afraid you adviced wrongly. And there's no doubt you did it 'cause of her age.

But my dear it isn't working.

I have seen the pains, health conditions and deaths of SSs. Please don't let us have more of them.

Is it only about his genotype he lied about?

So because your sister is 36 and has been dating the guy for centuries, means she must marry him.... she is not in love but desperate.

Should she end up being left with a child who is SS, I hope your family will help carry the load .

This issue of Genotype ehn.

If you know the number of couples who are both Sickle Cell Carriers (AS) and ended up marrying themselves all in the name of love to later start regretting their action years later, you won't have created this thread.

Their so called love have been lost and is no where to be found. They are both filled with hatred for each other due to several hospital trips.

Their finances have recked due to buying Sickle cell medications for their child not to talk of the emotional and psychological trauma they go through knowing that such child can wake up having Chronic Crises in the middle of the night.

That was how one couple both AS got married on top love. They gave birth to twins boys. Both SS. That was the beginning of their suffering in life until 10yrs later when I heard that the Sickle Cell Children got cured and their Genotype Changed.

One's genotyoe changed to AS.
The other one genotype changed to AA.
And laboratory results confirmed. They said the joy took them to about 10 labs for confirmation.

According to them, God directed them to someone on Facebook who helped them and guided them with some Medications that changed their children's lives.

I'm happy for them sha.

At last, their pain, sorrow, suffering and guilt have come to an end.

Genotype magically changed from SS to AA and AS? undecided

Come on now... are these stories really necessary? We get it. It is hard for such couples to endure but there is isn't really the end. undecided

Couples with sickle cell trait can have a child without sickle cell anemia by fertilizing the woman’s eggs in a lab, then deciding which one to implant in her womb. The terms for these procedures are in vitro fertilizatin and pre-implantation genetics diagnosis.

South American doctors did a case study of a couple who had a normal child using these techniques.

The parents, both with sickle cell trait, had already had a daughter with sickle cell anemia. Before having their next child, they opted for genetic testing.

Then they underwent six cycles of in vitro fertilization that resulted in 53 embryos. Each was analyzed for a hemoglobin gene mutation.

Fifteen of the 53 embryos had a normal hemoglobin gene, 12 had two copies of the sickle cell anemia mutation, 20 had one copy of the sickle cell anemia mutation, and the results for 6 embryos were inconclusive.

One treatment for sickle cell anemia is a hematopoietic stem cell transplant — a type that gives rise to blood cells. But for a patient to receive the bone marrow transplant, a compatible donor is necessary.

Although this seems to defy medical science, I know of someone like this in the US. She is American and she was SS as a child. It later changed. I do not know how this is possible, but it can happen.

Yes darling. Their genotype changed from SS to AA. This is first hand information am giving you.

They are not the only ones that their genotype have changed. This same person they went to helped another Sickle Cell girl of about 2yrs old. She was SC. She got cured to and her genotype changed to AA. The mother almost ran mad. Several laboratory results have confirmed it.

I don't like coming out to say it because people are always quick to attack, judge and fight you even when u are trying to help them so I keep these solutions to myself.

It's always best to keep quiet and let people sort their problems by themselves.

I will end with this. This is 2022 and not 1980. For every health problem now, there is a cure whether u believe it or not but we live in an Evil world.

The day you realize that the Health Sector is more concerned about making money off people's Sicknesses, Diseases and Ailments than making the public aware of the available cure, that is the day u will realize that this Health sector is more of a Business Enterprise and your terminal sickness is a major cash out.
