Hiya,

Can I ask; What was the cost of insurance on your Nigerian license?

£99.04 for a Monthly comprehensive cover. I used my provisional license though to get this rate, not my Nigerian license. I Also ensured that I got a good insurance rate by using the plate number to compare various rates before paying for the car.

Hello everyone.
Please I have a question
It quite a long read though…

So, I am currently in the uk on a Tier 4 visa.
I arrived January this year and I’m finishing my education January 5th next year, although I have from January 5th till May 5th 2023 when my visa expires to work full time because it off term time.

I have been working as a support worker with a company for about 4 months now, but as a bank staff because I can only work 20 hours a week.
Now the company has accepted to sponsor its current employees in need of tier 2 visa.
But I was told they won’t be able to sponsor me because my visa limits me to working 20 hours a week.

Please house, I need to confirm this from here. Because up till now I always assumed I could switch from a tier 4 visa to a tier 2 visa even during term time as long as I have a full time offer from a company willing to sponsor and it will state on the offer letter that I won’t start working full time until my tier 2 visa has been approved.

Please am I wrong… also if anyone has been (or knows someone that has been) able to switch from tier 4 to tier 2 visa even during term time, please I would appreciate if you could share the process the company used.

Thank you all

By term time, do we assume you mean before expiration of your student visa (previously Tier 4 if issued b4 2021)
semmyk:
Possibly, take a second look at posts on page 476
For noting: Tier 4 student visa | Tier 2 skilled worker visa

Well, I get his point tho. I know a classmate that was offered sponsorship but not under the health and care Visa. From her calculation, she will pay almost 4k per person for visa application and IHS for 3 years. And this is a family of 4. Total calculation for the whole family to switch to tier 2 is about 16k which is ridiculous. So getting a health and care Visa makes switching to tier 2 easier.

Yes, I know but you need to look at PSW as a whole including the length and cost from year 1 to year10 that you would expend to get an ILR; whereas your tier 2 switching via non-care job already sets you on a short route.

Anyways, to each, his own. It’s a race with different end goal in sight

I got a job at a University recently on a student visa. During the interview, the hr told me I can work full time during holidays and 20 hours during term time however they will pro-rate my salary. My Uni resumes next week and this 20 hour take-home can't take me anywhere. Can I continue to work as a carer to argument what the Uni pays? Will it not have impact on my visa extension as I will be working more than 20 hours? I work in NHS hospitals.

Seems you have removed the attachment. What did they say?

Yes I did after a few hours but they simply confirmed what the school had told me already that council does not have any contribution to the subsidy and if school claims it's free for all, I should go ahead.

And if I'm still unsure, I should approach the school for further clarification.

I am sure you are very aware of the rules which states you can't work more than 20 hours during term time....so why are you asking us. Lol. If we say go ahead , nothing do you and you carry on .....

Forgetting that HMRC system is getting upgraded and home office can easily see pay these day. When it becomes a problem during visa renewal na you go carry that cross jejely. Anyone who tells you carry go, will not be there to carry the cross with you when it becomes a problem....Someone posted this week how an applicant was denied due to claiming public funds. Going against visa restriction should be a no no if you intend to stay in UK long term.

you made a right choice by clarifying 30 hours and ensuring you only use 15 hours .. see this post. 30 hours would be classified as public funds in England

Please, can you recommend any cheap housing for someone that'll arrive in Manchester without accommodation lined up?

Cheap and Manchester don't even belong in the same sentence to be very honest but I wouldn't know much about any cheap housing arrangement asides the common airbnb or hotel as we got an apartment before we left 9ja and only stayed a night at the hotel we pre booked also.

Just be ready to search every nook and cranny upon arrival and also keep a minimum of 6 months rent just to be safe. I wish you the very best in this pocket draining journey.

What is the update on your enquires from your council? Any luck with the call/mail?

So after getting 2 years stay with PSW, one has to continually apply for leave to remain until it totals 10 years stay before applying for ILR.

Is this accurate?

No Sir /Ma

Its this way -

2 yrs school + 2 yrs PSW = 4 years

Let's assume you have one mamalet as dependent, if she switches to a student visa and you turn to her dependent, she will also do

2 yrs school + 2 yrs PSW = 4 years

This makes a total of 8 years which counts towards the total 10 yrs

If you now do another 2 yrs MSc, then total will be 10 years after which you can now apply for ILR

I hope this makes sense smiley

You have to switch to either tier 4 or tier 2.

You can not renew or extend PSW.

I clarified from both the city council and school and both insist the subsidy from school is not from the government. I'm going to go ahead at this point and keep both responses in my archive for future reference.

I need to access more than 15hrs and I'm willing to pay but neither school nor council is charging me for the extra 15hrs and school insists the subsidy is NOT public funds.

Adding extra heartache of joining waiting list and looking for placement in another school to all the stress of even getting a school and all is no longer for me at this point. Mio Le waku

I used this site below. Just type in the plate number and it’ll bring up the vehicle, select it, fill in your details and it’ll show several quotes to choose from - https://www.moneysupermarket.com/car-insurance/

That is clearly incorrect .... the government website should be your guide. Later when you have issues the person would told you 30 hours is not public funds won't be there to help you . The Home office will reply you that all rules are clearly listed on .gov. ... all 30 hours is linked to NI, so home office can see if anyone get 30 hours childcare if they want to check

When in doubt, always check gov website ...it is the ultimate source of truth for their rules. It clearly states who is eligible for 30 hours and those on visa do not qualify .
