On the day of the protests itself Trump and his close aids cajoled to crowd to enter the Capitol. The speech by Trump and his aids was nothing less that a declaration of war.

Below was Trump's tweet on December 18, three weeks before the January 6 riots. Obviously they anticipated well in advance that it was going to be violent.
