BlueRayDick:My point is that degree alone is not enough...They're other ways you can assess the competence of an individual bar looking at their academic qualifications... |

izzou:Just the same way those who didn't go through higher education too are excelling in their endeavors... My point was just to highlight the flaw in your argument and not necessarily that I don't agree that they're folks who are doing great after graduating... I don't think in our respective communities we assess the competence of people via their degrees... |

larride:The argument is non-substantiative seeing as both sides have a point. It just matters to what degree either are right or wrong. Having a degree largely means being educated and literate. The educated illiterates are outliers. Meanwhile in a group of 100 people without degree, the vast majority of them, and I mean 85 to 90 percent of those without degree are poor, illiterate and the bottom barrel of the society, mind you this is generally speaking, not just limited to political leadership debate. 85 percent of the successful demography (rich and middle class) are degree holders. 90 percent of the poor are non degree holders. It is preferable to have a degree holder than a non degree holder. Bonus point: having a degree means you've been in a learning environment. And higher institutions are usually very diversified which means you've been exposed to different characters and people from different backgrounds which aids in your development as a person, compared to uneducated demography. I'm speaking in general terms not outliers. |

patrickmuf:Nobody ever said degree on its own was enough, just saying it can be a key criteria for leadership. |

BlueRayDick:Commercial banks, Big 4, Engineers are not the only places successful careers exists There are probably bigger success stories in Kano Central Market, Onitsha Market, Bodija market, Football industry, Nollywood, Music industry, military etc that do not require a University degree. You are talking about those seeking a job there are people who created multi million dollar empires legitimately without a degree. Why should we exclude those success stories from being president? |

The governor of Cross River state has multiple PhDs yet the only thing I know him for is the hilarious naming ceremony he holds for his budget. Budget of contemporary cataclysmic gargantuanism As a society we are too focused on impressing with book knowledge when we have little to show for it in practical terms. A Nigerian who wants to show he is smart will cram jaw breaking vocabulary just to impress when there are easier ways to communicate Do you want to impress or just provide solutions |

https://www.nairaland.com/7346192/valentine-obienyem-paper-qualifications-dont I just went on front page and saw this link I don't even understand the need to defend Obis qualifications by Mr Valentine his spokesman maybe I'm missing something about his qualifications BlueRayDick theflint given the above and insinuations around Obis paper certificate that had his spokesman defending him as shown, should we now disqualify him because he was not the most brilliant academically and ignore the success he has created for himself outside what he learnt in the Uni |

raumdeuter:My position on this issue of degree is clear. See below my post suggesting we have a comprehensive criteria for selecting a president. I proposed we look at an educated & successful person as well as somebody who can explain to us how he will solve problems. It’s not like it’s the degree that will form basis of electing them 100% , but it’s a minimum requirement to dissuade a lot of dullards from trying at all. It’s just like dem KPMG and co putting up an advert and pegging the minimum academic qualification at a Bsc degree with 2.1 . It’s not like they don’t know there are bright 2.2 prospective candidates, but they want to weed out as many not-so-smart 2.2 graduates that will definitely waste their precious time. So they are willing to deal with the 2.1 graduates who they will still judge based on their academic prowess ( at the CBT or Pencil-paper test ) , their eloquence & presentation skills ( at the interview/assessment center) , their emotional |

And just like that, once again we have an influential and prominent Yoruba leader in Lagos castigating the igbos. Not hausas, not gwari, not itsekiri. Always the igbos. WHY?? WHY?? What have igbos as a whole done to Tinubu that all his followers must always hate on this tribe? Just why?? Tinubu is turning Lagos is into a hotbed for tribal tensions and setting the tone for ethnic cleansing. This is not right. https://twitter.com/Franeb/status/1572538850756689920?t=CHCaS5N8n_OOPxVEGwP99w&s=19 |

Even if degree is not important, at least debate your opponent instead of getting carried along till you win like John Terry in CL final |

![]() https://www.nairaland.com/7346698/tinubus-certificates-emerges-nigerians-point Banter aside the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria only requires you to show you went to secondary school you don't even need to show any WAEC or NECO certificate. Raumdeuter has already shown with valid examples that not having a university degree shouldn't stop anyone from later becoming a competent administrator. |

The Iran internet shutdown is eerily similar to when APC administration banned Twitter overnight. That should disqualify them as an option to any reasonable person Of which Shettima has already told us his role models are Babangida and Abacha. Same people his principal was supposedly 'fighting' against To their credit they are not masking their evil intentions Nigerians e ronu oh |

chrisooblog:Yesterday when I started the argument against making University degree the standard, I didn't even know something will be brewing against Obi today whether true or false, Assuming it was Tinubu that they are throwing doubts about his Bachelors degree today they will say its because of that that I am trying to defend Tinubu If Obi did graduate or not, I believe his success in business is enough to make him a contestant for Presidency. That is his career. He is a businessman a successful one by all metrics, whether he has a degree or not. Even if Obi did not have a degree, He would still be better than 90% of those with degrees. People like Maduka Dangote should be teaching citizens and youths how to make it in business in our Nigerian terrain |
