FG APPROVES THE DREDGING OF ORASHI RIVER TO ATLANTIC OCEAN

Gov. Hope Uzodimma has again, given Imo people another reason to smile as the Federal Government has approved the dredging Orashi River to the Atlantic Sea which will serve as the first sea port in the South East region.

This new development is coming days after President Muhammadu Buhari visited the State to commission laudable projects embarked upon by the Shared Prosperity Government of Gov. Hope Uzodimma and in what can be best described as the real Uzodimma magic is the approval of a Seaport in Imo State amongst many other Federal Government projects dragged to the State.

When completed, the seaport will complement the economic activities of the other *six* major seaports in the country which will enable traders from the zone import and receive their goods directly while enjoying a comparative advantage as well as promote and encourage the business spirit of the people of South East.

This will in no measure turn Imo State to the business hub of South East and by extension the country as it will increase the State's internal revenue, siting of industries and create employment opportunities.

It has become obvious that Gov. Hope Uzodimma is meticulously poised towards changing the economic landscape of Imo State and the South East by integrating the zone to the mainstream of national politics which is evident in the numerous projects facilitated by the Federal Government.

Gov. Hope Uzodimma is committed to good governance and people-oriented projects that will better the lives of Ndi Imo.

This is where I come from. If this is true, then it is because the federal government want to use the river to export egbema and oguta oil and gas, not out of love.

Most of the crisis going on in imo state is directly or indirectly linked to the gas reserves in imo state. Federal government has noticed that the oil and gas export from imo state don't reach the bonny terminal again. They decided to be exporting it directly from the seaport.

So don't rejoice. That sea port will not export any goods only igbo gas and oil.

Completely unviable and fiscally reckless! what South east needs is the construction of a deep sea port in akwa ibom or Bonny, with a dedicated railway line linking the port to Dry shipping ports in Aba and Okigwe and Enugu.I will prefer the port be located in akwa ibom for political reasons, i do not like the rabid anti Igbo sentiments in Rivers state! make the Port Harcourt-enugu a motorable six lane freeway and of course dualize the Oba - okigwe road, this particular road is less than 10 minutes to onitsha.....................this will be far more cost effective short to long term! O

It can be dredged for small boats not for shipping and secondly Uzodimma doesn't have the means to execute this kind of project that why I am not excited.

It's actually very possible if u see what was done in Dubai but u are right uzodima don't look like a politician that have the political desterity to execute such a massive project that will cost over a $1b unless the federal govt just wants to execute the project because of the huge gas deposits in the oguta assis of imo state.

Nothing will happen to those communities onne sea port was also dredged instead there will be a boast of economic activities in all the communities along that orashi river. Go to Dubai and see what they did there and stop having a small mind look at the bigger picture of what the dredging will do.
