ZombieTAMER: I don't support nor have i voted for APC. Also,if APC was realistic, they would have let power companies be more profitable...by letting them set their prices. The fact that APC sets prices for discos should be a sign to you that they have no idea about how economics works in the real world. Good afternoon, and good luck with you. |

nazicartel: In fairness to the government, they did say that it would take some years before we started seeing benefits. Plus the transformers are essentially meant to help improve transmission. Improving generation is another matter...and it means eventually that the new government (hopefully not APC) takes the decision to let the sector set its prices and make enough of a profit to keep generation, transmmision and distribution running at an even keel. |

Troublemaker111:Only wish pdp and Jonathan has done the right thing during the privatization, they would have made it easier for successor governments. Pdp left a very poor foundation in the electricity sector. |

edoairways:The president has not signed into law the 'decentralization of the electricity' bill! The senate has only passed that bill for a final signing into law by the president! If you have a contrary opinion or report please show proof with links that the President have signed the bill into law! |

Buckeyemedia1: Jonny boy did not sell to quacks..he sold to at least reputable enough companies. The problem was....he then hamstrung the companies by putting in place a law that essentially said that government should set their prices. (Now, at this point, if you were a businessman, would you allow the government to set your prices? Answer now..before reading the rest of my comment). The APC came in, kept the same system, even went on to keep a price freeze in place for 2-3 years....and raised prices when subsidy costs rose to the point that government was defacto owing at least a trillion naira to the sector.... Naturally, the companies found it difficult to operate. As did the GENCOS...and the TCN...since they rely on DISCOS for revenue. Naturally, the DISCOS ended up losing money...which is why most of them are now in the hands of the banks., and in one case back in government hands. Note...I am not here to abuse your leader, or your party. I am here to tell you why the companies struggled....and why we did not have sensible companies coming in from abroad. Because, we want cheap power...at very cheap prices. |

Kasssandra:Name one of the reputable companies that Mumu sold our electricity infrastructure to, before I take my time to read your nonsense within? Even President Buhari engaging GE & Siemens, is a lot better than that nonsense Jonathan Mumu & pdp did. Useless Animals, I still remember that morning of November 7th 2013, when he was gleefully handing over the certificates to those quacks. |

Buckeyemedia1: Okay, short version, or approaching it from another angle. Reputable companies from abroad came in to the privatization process....and were chased away by the fact that government would set their prices. The companies that did come in were willing to take the risk with the promise that prices would be raised eventually, and that government would set a subsidy Which did not work in practice. If you want companies like Siemens coming in , you have to accept that they would set their prices. Meaning you would have to accept high prices for power supply....in return for investment...because companies need to see return on investment P.S Aedc for example, is run by a foreign company....not a friend of GEJ. |

Kasssandra:Government wants to set the price of electricity in an open market, Useless people, no wonder they will never have electricity, they want to pay next to nothing, let them keep waiting for electricity. Nonsense, even small Republic du Benin & Togo, have higher electricity tariffs then big brother Nigeria? Which sensible company will invest in such a market? |
Re: National Grid Collapses, Plunges Country Into Darkness Again by Nobody: 2:48pm On Sep 26, 2022 |
Buckeyemedia1: Well, at the end, eventually, it has to happen, as you know. You now get my point. Have government set prices, and companies won't run at a profit, or attract investment. |
