Ortom Breaks Away From Wike’s Allies, Says ‘I Want Ayu As Chairman’ by Maxymilliano(op): 9:20am On Sep 27, 2022
Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, says he is not among those calling for the removal of Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ortom’s statement contradicts that of Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, and his allies, which he was a part of.

Since the election of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the standard-bearer of the party in May, the group has insisted that Ayu must resign as a condition for supporting the PDP presidential candidate.

In a statement issued by Nathaniel Ikyur, his chief press secretary, Ortom said he has confidence in Ayu’s ability to lead the party to victory in next year’s general election.

The governor was reacting to the allegations by Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja that he was plotting the downfall of his fellow Benue man, Ayu.

He said he worked tirelessly, alongside other prominent Benue citizens, to ensure that Ayu was elected “as the national chairman of our great party even against all odds”.

“The governor could not, therefore, turn around to work against him to be removed from office,” the statement reads.

“Governor Ortom vouched for the integrity and capacity of Dr Iyorchia Ayu to lead and rebuild the PDP to victory and rescue Nigeria from the misrule of the APC maladministration. That is why Ayu was returned unopposed by the northern caucus of the party and got elected as the national chairman of the PDP at the party’s convention.

“Where was Jemgbagh Development Association, when Governor Ortom galvanised support from across the leaders of the party to make Dr. Ayu PDP’s National Chairman? What was their contribution to that project that they now want to use clannish stance to blackmail the governor?

“This amorphous and emergency Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja, which has never been heard of before, is now masquerading as the voice of Jemgbagh to embark on campaign of calumny against Governor Ortom, who has worked selflessly for the people of Benue State.

“Governor Ortom is more Jemgbagh than most of the people claiming it now. This is fact, because he has done more for Jemgbagh, both in terms of appointments and projects executed as well as patronage in the area, than even one of the Jemgbagh sons, who was governor. Besides, Governor Ortom has consistently worked for the unity of Benue State and will never stand in the way of any of her citizens, either here in the state or in the diaspora

“For those, who claimed to be leaders of this Jemgbagh Development Association, Abuja, we urge them to be truly developmental in their drive to build cohesion among the people and attract real development to their area rather than engaging in mischief or blackmail.”

Ortom should concentrate more on how to stop Fulani herdsmen from slaughtering his people daily. Most Governors are setting up security outfits to combat Fulani herdsmen and their attrocities while Ortom is only bothered on irrelevant things.

He who comes to equity must come with clean hand. Wike knew it was turn of the east to produce the president under PDP but his greed didn't allow him. Now that he has lost he is making it look like he is fighting for justice. So much from a man who didn't respect zoning arrangement in Rivers state before becoming the governor.

An average Nigerian politician is unstable in his ways, let Wike reap what he has sowed, isn't good to be loud mouthed and fighting everyone

Since he stop attending meetings with Gov wike and the rest I suspected him that he was up to something funny.

To even make it worse he now started putting plaster on his forehead to lie that his absence was due to an injury he sustained.

They have now start to leave the clueless empty ingrate Wike. I said it some weeks ago that Wike will be deserted and be disgrace in the end. Wike has shut himself in the foot already. No one will support his clueless move to work against the incoming President Atiku Abubakar in 2023. You can never stop a destined man that his time has come. Wike the clueless empty chest beater is a clueless goner. He will surely regret his actions for dragging Pdp on the media. Thousands of his followers have left him to Secondus camp. Infact Wike camp has been divided already. Atiku/Okowa everywhere you go. February 25th, 2023 is the date.

This will only push Wike more and more into the welcoming arms of incoming President Bola Tinubu. Right now his options are narrowing and he will likely end up like Amaechi he once condemned for betraying his party cheesy

When Secondus was removed and the chairmanship slot zoned to the north central, Wike asked Ayu to forward a name. David Mark was originally the chosen one, but Ortom preferred Ayu over him. Ortom was asked to get David Mark to step down. Mark himself being a faithful party man sacrificed his ambition. The rest became history, as they say.

With the chairmanship zoned to Benue state, there is no way the governor would allow the seat to be given to the south west. Unfortunately that is the dilemma that PDP finds himself with the greedy northern powers as a whole.

The election of 2023 will not produce a landslide votes in anyone’s favour. It is largely a three horse race with Obi, Atiku and BAT. Kwakwanso will make impact in the north and Edo state, where his Kwakwansiyya movement is prominent.

In all, Wike cannot be dismissed as a noisemaker. If Atiku is a unifier, he must prove it with Wike first.

Whatever the case, I am OBIdient.
