What is our problem here.

We are not developed because we told ourselves a lie, that we could make a living from sharing the revenue that we earn from selling raw materials like cocoa, cotton, palm oil, etc.

In the process, we forgot that

1.Prices of those stuff rise and fall aimlessely. Today, it can be high to earn enough, and even save some money, tomorrow, it can be low to force you to take loans from everyone, including your poor neighbour, to survive.

2.The population will always grow...and at some point grow to a level where the number of people outstrip the ability of revenue from selling resources to sustain it.

Singapore that you mention...had no resources, so they had to rely on industrial development to survive. They also were located in a strategic place geographically vis a vis international trade (that's why the British were so eager to take control of the place in the first instance)..so they used that to leverage themselves into a position of development. Add the fact that their educaiton system is severely meritocratic (because they have no choice...they either employ their best brains, or they starve...resource limited countries all have to make educaiton a vital resource)...and that is why they are developed.

The fact is, if we want to be like Singapore, we have to stop thinking that we are earning enough money to live like they do in Saudi , and start thinking that we have limited resources, and then use education to sort out the issues...and we would be better than Singapore
