I have spaaaaaaace, you get what I mean but you see those goats ehn, cos fence is a dwarf one and no gate.
As I don't have a paid job, I could go commercial
Imagine goats that will come by midnight to feast on your plants.
Been there before, so I can relate very well. Dwarf fence and no gate. Very bad. All the maize planted (it was even by my mother-in-law when she came visiting briefly) was destroyed by goats. Some vegetables were destroyed by the chicken. Goats even ate the bitter leaf we planted also. It was only those vegetables they don't usually consume naturally (like ewedu) that survived.

How much can you make from that?
Well, as you can see in the post, we didn't do this for commercial purpose. It's simply for our own consumption and also to avoid wastage of some organic stuff (and left-over food in the house). Moreover, it's fun doing it.

Okay, you need to put a layer of sand on every layer of the compost manure and also cover the container being used to generate it.
Oh. Okay. Thanks. Will try again

My wife is actually passionate about this kinds of gardening, I wish I have more pictures.

Meanwhile here is my 1 year 10 months old daughter helping out with watering the garden grin grin grin grin

Wifey grows different assorted vegetables like Okra, spinach, owedu/karkashi(in hausa), Sorrel Leaves (Yakuwa in hausa), sometimes yam and others. she does this in Delta
I doff my hat for your wife. Kudos to your daughter too for helping out at that early age. A potential future Minister for Agriculture she looks.

Please advise your wife to consider discarding the use of 'artificial hair attachment' for your daughter, it veils her natural God given hair and takes away the natural beauty God has given her.

Same advise for all women on Nairaland please, let the natural beauty of your female children radiates. Make them radiant naturally.

Buy vegetable seeds. Mix with some soil and just spread them on the soil. Otherwise, don't throw away the stalk/stem of the vegetables you buy to eat. Just insert each stem into the soil in the right direction. Keep watering except there is sufficient rain. Gbam!
my gardening begins tomorrow.. thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks so much for your generous comments and on future Minister of Agriculture grin grin grin I pray so

And also thanks for your advise on the hair extension, it was actually wool (ulu) if you understand and was done for an event. Normally she doesn't do attachment as in attachment except on special events like school presentations etc. I appreciate bro

Don't worry about goats feasting on your plants, just get their excreters soak it in water mixed it up and use it to spray your plantations . They will never touch it with there mouth and it will also serve as anti parasite and organic fertilizer. Just try and see.

It's an age-long method that actually works but it's also a bondage itself. What if there is a heavy rain that washes it all away and the owner is unable to quickly replace it? Those goats are extremely stubborn creatures that don't sleep on any chance at all. I think the best thing to do in this situation is to erect a makeshift fence with wood or bamboo and strong wire gauze or chicken net (aka "boko haram net" ) around the plantation/garden. This is better than sprinkling goat faeces every time.

Yes, thanks. You can still do it if you wish to. It's just a matter of creating a makeshift fence (perhaps with barbed wire or thick wire gauze) around the garden area if you have the space.

Updates...
We added tomatoes to the garden (both the usual ones and the climber species with fluted fruits). There is also a different species of okro growing in there. It grows tall but it's fine!

Mofun:
Hello! You can save some of the cost incurred in buying some farm produce just by gardening. And, yes, you can embark on gardening without limits even if there appears to be limitations.

There are various gardening methods/approaches especially when there is no direct soil (that is bare, natural) ground available. So, we employed a few of them in our paved compound.

Manure source: organic matter (natural items that can decompose) such as left-over food, fruit and tuber peels, animal dung, extracts (waste) from fish/meat being prepared for cooking, etc. Nothing is actually allowed to waste. This way, we don't necessarily have to buy vegetables, okro, ewedu (the leaf used to prepare the Yoruba signature soup) all the time. Also, for some fast stew of little proportion or just something to quickly spice up some food we can simply dash into the garden to harvest pepper.

PS. Our landlord recently visited from the UK and he was so thrilled that he decided to go and do something similar upon his return there.
Impressive.
