Nobody should arrest human because of plant because it is the hand work of God and remember that God has said that he has made everything perfect that we should enjoy. This plant has many health benefits.

Stop wasting scarce government resources on bullshit optics

Meanwhile, how can usage be independent of possession? You'd first acquire and possess the stuff before you could even use it!

An Open Letter to NDLEA Chairman Retired Major General Marwa

First of all sir, I join others who wish Nigeria well, in congratulating your organization for its spectacular performance in identifying, intercepting, and prosecuting the sellers and traffickers of deadly drugs like cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, Tramadol, Rohypnol, Codeine syrup, and other insidious chemicals that destroy lives worldwide. The massive multi-billion dollar cocaine bust in Lagos is still fresh in the collective memory.

Secondly, sir, it is enormously encouraging to hear for the first time that you are indeed well-informed about the documented therapeutic benefits of medical marijuana, and are equally aware that nearby African countries are now discarding those archaic colonial-era prohibition laws that have been used to demonize cannabis worldwide for generations thus far while depriving good people of their freedom.

It is worthy of note that the addition of deadly mind-altering chemicals like PCP, synthetic THC, and methamphetamine to organic cannabis is the REAL reason that news headlines report instances of young Nigerians running mad after smoking marijuana. Furthermore, it is well known that the primary reason why such deadly additives find their way into cannabis is largely due to the illegality of cannabis which by default allows criminal gangs to control cannabis production, and to poison its harvest in a bid to boost potency using nasty chemicals as additives.

In conclusion sir, your leadership role is now more vital than ever before, in facilitating a legislative re-think about the overdue obligation to legalize medical or recreational cannabis growing, sale, and consumption for ADULTS ONLY above the age of 25 years old. A regime of fully regulated and taxed LEGAL cannabis production in Nigeria will generate BILLIONS of dollars for the nation's coffers while removing forever the criminal element from the production cycle of that multi-faceted medical plant called cannabis.

The winds of change are blowing in Africa, and Major General Buba Marwa is a man uniquely positioned to lend his weight to the removal of criminal penalties for the cultivation, consumption, sale, and export of medical marijuana in Nigeria. It is high time that Nigeria joins ranks with other enlightened African nations currently reaping billions of investor dollars by legalizing the industrialized production of medical cannabis. South Africa, Malawi, Uganda, Lesotho, Zambia, and Ghana are a few of the other African nations that are now exploring the billion-dollar revenue stream that is assured once cannabis production is fully legalized.

Respectfully sir

A concerned citizen

Stop flooding our courts with cases of canabis usage, we need space for serious offences.

Marijuana is a cash crop,. government must look into that.

You can't mock what is created by the almighty, you have no right. The government is only terming marijuana illegal as a means of extorting money from those who are involve in marijuana production/consumption.

The only colonization in Nigeria now is Nnamdi Kanu and Samuel Ekpa subjecting south east and treating them like slaves, Lagos is the most free state and city in Nigeria, that's why all igbos who like a good life run to hide in Lagos from Ipob and ESN enslavement. Nowhere in the world is a people forced to stay indoors and they willing oblige, except south east, this is beyond colonization, it's enslavement.

although my love for igbeaux is unparalleled.

I can't deceive myself, Nigeria is not ready for marijuana legalisation.

even if we legalize it now, white boy carl and his frat bros are just going to come over here and take over the means of production and distribution because of our lack of experience in the global marijuana industry.

wouldn't it be a sight? white investors with almost total control of a product that can basically sedate the minds of youths in the most populous black nation on Earth; a KK Klansman's wet dream.

the most logical thing to do is basically decriminalisation of possession of a certain amount of marijuana for personal use.

P.S
to all the igbolabis out there, let's be real, marijuana is more than "just a plant", it's an actual mind altering drug.

when you take your first hit of the wacky tobaccy, you start a journey of self discovery that will either free you or utterly destroy you.

yes it has its benefits, but it's definitely not for everybody.

How can alcohol be legalized and cannabis will not be? The people that made the law are stupid. You legalize cigarettes and criminalize cannabis. It's madness.

Why don't you go and arrest God that created the plant.

laws are not made for the benefit of the masses, they're made to benefit institutions such as the government and corporations. it's a rigged game.

but to be fair, the whole "God made marijuana, so it's safe to use" narrative is overplayed. God also made opium too and everyone knows how destructive it can be when misused.

This is a very balanced view that you have offered. I love organically grown weed and the smell alone makes me salivate like a rabid dog, BUT I realize that other naturally occurring substances like opium are DEADLY to the human mind and body, despite also being "created by God".

Anyone trafficking in cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, PCP, Tramadol, and codeine syrup deserves to be arrested for endangering society thereby qualifying themselves to become guests of the jail system after a fair trial. It is VITAL, however, that a clear line of distinction MUST be drawn between these listed deadly poisons on one hand, in contrast to perfectly safe organically grown medical marijuana that is NOT tainted with chemical additives, on the other hand. With that critical distinction drawn, cannabis in its pure form with no additives can then be recognized for its multiple medical benefits, as a prelude to its complete legalization in Nigeria's very near future.

We need to look at the export potentials of Marijuana.

We need to grow our economy.

The world is becoming more sophisticated, we need to change with the times or be left with the times.

There is billions of dollars to be made legally in the export of marijuana.

The taxed and regulated industrial-scale production and export of medical marijuana will eclipse Nigeria's crude oil export earnings within ten years from the date that Nigeria's federal government legalizes and taxes marijuana production for export.

Drink too much of that whisky you love so much, and you will wind up as a medical specimen for anatomy students who will poke at your decayed, alcohol-ravaged liver. Your legally available alcohol is by far the deadliest drug in existence, which is directly responsible for thousands of overdose and car crash fatalities worldwide per year

In stark contrast, anyone who smokes too much organically grown cannabis containing NO additives, may laugh a little too freely, eat a little too much, then perhaps sleep a couple of hours longer than usual before waking up feeling rested and refreshed. Not one single marijuana overdose death has ever been recorded worldwide since medical records have been kept.

If you choose to avoid reading about the multiplicity of medical benefits attributable to the therapeutic use of cannabis, then at least try to contain your impotent rage when more informed people generously seek to acquaint you with empirically verifiable evidence that cannabis IS in fact good for the human body and mind.

Export cannabbis, legalise and regulate prostitution in specified red light zones, and reduce population growth.
Any president that has the balls to do these is ready to solve unemployment in Nigeria.

It could turn out to be a mistake to presume that Retired Major General Marwa is never going to change his opposition to cannabis. His recent acknowledgment that his agency generally avoids jailing cannabis users is in and of itself a significant indicator that there MIGHT be a change of heart about Nigeria's cannabis prohibition laws right at the very pinnacle of federal legislative power.

Ever the tactician, Marwa would be wary of making public statements suggestive of a softening stand on the cannabis legalization question, UNLESS the subject has ALREADY been discussed at length behind closed doors by the presidency. One can only hope that the result of such discussions will be that Nigeria joins the growing list of African nations now reaping multi-million dollar annual tax and export revenue from newly legalized cannabis industries.

What is good enough for South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Uganda, and Ghana, where cannabis is now legalized and taxed, must certainly also be good for Nigeria, whose leadership may well be much closer to repealing cannabis prohibition than anyone could possibly imagine.

Marijuana is a mind altering and narcotic substance.
It deserves any criminalisation it gets.
Any mind altering drug that has the capacity of causing hypnosis has to be strictly prohibited.
Those who soften their stance is as a result of topnotch health care system and high literacy level.
And Nigeria or any third country is highly illequipped and unprepared to emulate such deliterious changes.
