I did something similar last week. Although the beans were canned (not baked beans, just canned boiled beans).

Boiled the rice 3/4 way, then added the beans and turned off the heat.

Roasted/baked fish steaks with garlic, onions, 1 scotch bonnet diced.

Are the rice/beans with the resulting baked juices.

I remembered that year when I traveled to South Africa, some guys (South Africans) asked me what am eating, I said rice,then a lady asked me if it was nice, I said "this is more than nice,it was "sweet" , they all look at me and one asked if they add sugar to rice in Nigeria, I said what sugar? ,they all said because I mentioned "SWEET"

That's when I realized that there are some English words we are using in Nigeria that you can't use it in foreign land(although we forget some times,especially those that just arrive in foreign land) , like if you say "I need to take my drug" south Africans will thinks you are talking about hard-drug (cocaine),you better use medicine instead of drug next time so that police won't nab you (serious fawulencez)

Lol.. theres a huge difference and it used to make me generalize that all Titus taste bad but whenever I ate one womans food her titus will taste so different and sweet. She now told me that there are two types. The white and black. That the white is what she uses. So since then whenever I go to buy, I request for the white and I've seen the difference. Some people call it Kampala Titus.

Ah.. that cooking especially rice and stew no be your mate o. Even me dey hear am from the prep to the cooking and clearing. It can take time.

You see now that women are trying especially when they have to combine it with office work life.
