The thread and cellotape are totally unnecessary. Just grab the ring and keep twisting it in clockwise or anticlockwise motions while pulling it gently towards the fingernail and it will gradually come out. This is nearly similar to what the thread aims to achieve.

If a thread can be passed under the ring, then it is not that tight. When a friend of mine was pregnant, she left her ring on and could not remove it till she gave birth - thinking back, I am not sure this method would have worked.

I remembered the day a recently married man came to my workshop and asked I helped him to remove his wedding ring , according to him so that it would not be a hindrance to his extra marital lifestyle.
