This is not meant to support the illegalities being perpetrated by some policemen.

But as a Nigerian who recognises the level of rot in the society we all live in, it's pertinent to do things in ways devoid of bringing the spotlight on you.

I've been resident in Abuja for a while and I can count the number of times I've been stopped by policemen on checkpoint duties. There hasn't been a single occasion where I was delayed beyond 3 minutes or asked irrelevant questions or even harassed.

I am an ordinary citizen like everyone else. But for God's sake, what is it going to cost some of you to dress and present yourselves responsibly in public? You know you live in a society that profiles you according to your appearance, yet you keep giving law enforcement agencies the yardsticks to focus on you, then come online to lament when you get what you actually bargained for. That is idiocy!

Yes, Nigeria is a democratic Nation, but even Police officers in "saner climes" will stop and question you when your appearance gives hints of irresponsibility. We all watch that in Hollywood movies, since not all of us have been privileged enough to travel out.

Some of you Nigerians are just plain stupid! The very fact you were harassed by two different police groups in one day shows your appearance was provocative enough to warrant it.
