My guy what gives dollar the power it has is a simple economic principle of demand and supply. Nigeria is very productive but imagine people don't store their money in dollars for sometime ie no demand for dollars much? It will come down and yes what the man said is possible

Sure currency redesign is part of devaluation of currency value esp. during inflation in a country. This is one of the best mechanisms the Apex bank use to encourage local investors in order to make foreign patronage expensive. Although, I don't see dollar falling to this extent as mentioned by the OP. because it can't never happen by way of the statistics at hand except miracle. I'm an Economist by the way

Point of correction, dollar is not falling or crashing, rather it is naira that is gaining value.

Dollar remain where it has always been for a long time now.

Naira redesign could have worsened the situation if not for the US new global policy on dollar. Those with dollar notes older than 2021 are trying to get rid of them and so the high supply in the market. Our inflation rate is presently at 21%. There is absolutely nothing being done internally to make the naira appreciate.

Haba Oga!, I doubt if we are even amongst the top 5 largest launderers of Dollars in the world. I agree with you that dollar crash has absolutely nothing to do with the redesign of the naira. However, insinuating that it is targeted at checking the stock pile of the currency in SA and Nigeria is an overkill

Don't mind them. Recent report says that naira has depreciated again.

It is even supposed to be the other way round.

Those who are hoarding the naira in their homes and are reluctant to take them to the bank will want to exchange them to dollars. And the rush for dollars will further devalue the naira.

Those hoarding the Naira have an option to change them to dollars (which would spike the demand and increase the rate) but what happens to the BDC guys who are also hoarding the dollars? They can't take all that stash to the bank cos of the CBN regulations on deposits ...so these two set of guys are now in a fix. The BDC guys or those with old dollars now want to flush them out but also weary of how to deposit the funds in the bank.
