I was expecting ASUU to continue fighting the good fight they started despite the pressure from the so called Industrial Court.
However, since they decided it was best to end the strike I strongly suggest they never stop fighting.
Right now ASUU needs to consider an alternative source for funding of university education.
One way to do this is to transform 90% of universities to SKILLS ACQUISITION CENTERS.
The skill acquisition centers will train students in areas such as Fisheries, Farming Techniques, Manufacturing, Control Of Industrial Machineries, etc.
The money the government is currently wasting in the name of subsidizing education would be used to set up industries to employ successful graduates from these training institutes.
According to the federal government, they spend about 900k per year for each student in federal universities as subsidy. If we assume that we have 50 thousand students in UNI A alone. That's about 45 Billion naira
The irony is that most of these graduates of this Uni A alone would not find employment for years after graduation. The few that finds the job would be underpaid.
Imagine if these students were taught practical skills and the money wasted on them in the name of subsidy was used to instead empower them.
Nigeria would really boost their manufacturing capacity if this is implemented.
We would advance in the areas of Agriculture and become a major player in the global community.
This would boost employment and reduce the price of foodstuffs.
The remaining 10% of our universities would be reserved for strictly academic studies. Here we train our medical practitioners and Engineers, research scientists and economists.
We badly need to transform education and I am calling on members of the ASUU to consider my submission.
If ASUU is not willing to consider an alternative source of funding then I strongly suggest that they embark on total and indefinite strike even if the strike will last for 5years let them do it.
One thing is clear, our education system, especially tertiary education in Nigeria is almost dead and we need to act as a nation to arrest this pandemic.

I believe that this is front page worthy @seun, @lalasticlala

5 years strike ?

are you crazy?

you think all those in conua will join them to starve for 5 years?

you don’t know they have dependents and innocent kids who is waiting for daddy to be paid, in order to eat?

government will encourage them on the 5years strike, their 5 years salaries will be used to do N-Power.

E no go even reach 10months of salary non-payment ASUU junior members will all port to conua, resume and get paid.

No work No Pay is in Nigeria’s constitution and legal.

Guy you're still in Uniben, years after you should have graduated, and you're still clamoring for a 5 year indefinite stroke?

We all know Nigeria's education is shit, and massive unemployment and underemployment awaits all of us up ahead, but I'll rather have my own share of the shitty education and leave early, instead of spending 10 years for a 4 year course.

If you want to spend 10 years in Uniben, good for you. Not everyone wants to. The solution to the ailing educational sector is not rocket science.

Come on. You should understand that 5 years was clearly an exaggeration. Why is everyone even interested in the 5 years strike? Is it the only thing that I wrote up there? Or is it that we like sentiments? Na wa for us oh.

Is the 5 years strike the only thing you read? It was clearly an exaggeration. It's like saying "I don't mind not sleeping for a week", why do we like sentiments like this in this country kwa. Na wa oh.

I am not clamoring for any strike. 5 years there was an exaggeration. It's like saying "I will not eat until I'm done with my assignment even if it will take me a week".
There are so many things in this write up that you can criticize, leave sentiments aside and criticize them. Thanks.

ASUU that will never ever receive their 8months salary will ever consider going on strike again?
any strike henceforth, whenever they call it off they’ll be paid pro rata.

if you call it off half of the month you receive half salary, while the other full months you won’t receive at all.

this is a bid to curb incessant strikes. take government to court if you want them to obey what they signed, not strike.

Thanks for your submission and I understand your logic.
I think they should try the court case as well. Something that I missed. All in all I don't believe it would be wise if they let it slide.

government is insisting any other avenue that is not strike. court, raising of tuition fees, raising of fee for ex students to get transcripts.

in private universities, transcripts is up to 700k per student.

and many more. courts, tuition raise, transcripts fees raise, etc. not strike.

that is government position, if you must strike, you won’t be stopped oo, but, no salary.

courts, tuition hike, transcripts fee hike, etc

so, do you think people will get transcript for high charges. Last year, Uniport announced that the results of as at 1990s is still with them. Students should come and collect it. Do you think students that didn't get a tangible job offer will go and collect results? Imagine, results as at 1990s. Many comments there were like they won't go and collect any results. They should eat it. I think the charges is around 30k. Yet people said they won't collect anything. Now if they charge higher, let's say 300k. Do you think They will be able to give out the transcript easily when their is no good job.

Yup. This is the problem. ASUU knows that they won't be able to raise shi shi from transcripts considering the economy.

This is the reason I suggest that they consider restructuring the system completely. Regardless of whatever anyone says, we simply can't continue like this. Our university system here is really a mess.
