Finally Let Go Of My 2003 Accord! by Piyke(op): 5:32pm On Nov 18, 2022
After 13 years, 112k plus miles, loads of fun trips and DIY escapades, I finally let this car go.
cry
Although I got a 2017 Accord last year, some planned repairs for the YouTube channel, plus some attachment to the car kept this car in the garage.

Good to be moving on.

Some history in this thread.

Used 20w-50 for the first couple of years (didn't have access to oil weight), then switched to 5w-20/30 mineral oil. Ran one Mile Master synthetic blend once but it practically evaporated from the engine so I continued mineral oil. Intervals were 3 - 4.5k miles.
I think the clencher is that I drove mostly highway miles.

Most times when ignorant people say Honda no good, I just say ask Piyke. I also have a Honda accord that has been faithful since 2013. I'm so attached to the car that I don't even have it in me to sell it. I just say make my bro still dey drive am first

I can relate to the bolded. When the buyer was driving away, it felt like a part of me was leaving. Lol.
I bought this 2003 Accord knowing nothing about cars. All I learnt in terms of diagnostics/fixing vehicles was on this car, hence the sentimental attachment. Once the guy left, I just went and started washing the new car to calm my head grin

I remember you and your DIY's. I'm looking up to you in that aspect. I just got a 2006 accord. What advice do you have?

Sorry, I must have missed this.

Keep up with oil changes, address check engine lights ASAP, make sure you have a good & trustworthy mechanic (if you're not into DIY). If a mechanic is the type that doesn't use a scanner, deletes thermostats etc, he should not be touching a modern day car.
Do preventive maintenance e.g., replacing air filter, spark plugs, coolant etc at the recommended intervals.
Recently, I was in a friend's car going somewhere and it stalled and wouldn't start. The engine was replaced 2 weeks prior for insane oil consumption. I went over to the engine bay for a quick inspection and the air filter was in shreds with gaping holes meaning that sand and debris was being sucked into the engine...certainly a contributor to the demise of the previous engine.

I think you get the point from the above. All the best and congrats!

Chief. I follow your threads dutifully. How much did you get the 2017 accord?

I remember that one thread where you couldn't get a sound one in Abuja after searching and had to import.

Looking for one in Abuja currently. Any help will be appreciated.
I'm sure the cost I bought at will no longer be relevant e.g., dollar was 470 when I bought. Its now around 750. Plus I think customs have adjusted duty rates. That said, I recall correctly it was around 6.9 - 7 after fixing all repairs. But of course, cost is affected by mileage, degree of accident, level of duty paid etc. So don't be surprised if you see the same car going for between 7 - 12m
All the best!
