Exactly my experience last month, when I was sent a parcel from the US with UPS expedited.
Took about 3weeks before getting here.

Then CUSTOM PROCESSING.

This is what you should do
Call their UPS Customer care, tell them your parcel is stuck at the custom.

They'll ask you for the tracking number, then tell you the custom duty charges on the parcel will be sent to your email when Nigerian customs communicates with them on the charges to be paid.

You'd need to beg their customer service agent to please help you fast track the process.

Exactly what I did...paid 63k duty fee before my parcel was sent down to Ibadan.

Go to usps.. its their custom department holding ur package.
If ur sender is whitey or a fellow Nigerian. Tell her to mail a copy of her ID or driver's license n write a letter stating the relationship between you both n the items sent...
After they receive that mail.
Also have a copy n tender it..
Dem go release ur package and ask for the normal egunje(bribe)

Wat u hav 2 do is contact UPS, ur package is hanging bcus you hav 2 pay import duty levy. I knw bcus i just received a package frm DHL, afta payment was made for d shipment, I had 2 pay anoda money 2 Customs via DHL for my shipment 2 b released.
Ur import duty levy amt will b determine by d cost of ur package. Try n contact ups quickly bcus u will pay 4 demurrage if u delay 2 claim it.

Likely there is a duty to be paid that UPS is yet to communicate u or custom. if what u are expecting is not a prohibited item under the Nigeria import acts

Nigerian customs can be a pain.
They are probably computing the duty you have to pay AND for a flimsy reason like having a phone in the package, you'll get the estimate according to their valuation.

The other reasons may be if you have imported contrabands such as
1. Prohibited Materials
2. Incriminating materials
3. Restricted materials

If not , check if your email address is correct as they will mail you through USPS.

Finally,Mail USPS, they will sort the problem out for you.

It’s preferable to send or ship items to Nigeria through those Nigerian private shippers. You go to their office to pick up your item when it gets here. With them you don’t have to deal with our corrupt customs agents.

It’s cheaper to send package through them . It is about $4 per pound.

Na normal levels with USPS priority mail to Nigeria

Call UPS customer service Nigeria and demand for explanation.
Tell the sender to call UPS USA as well..very simple

Once it comes to shipping through nipost you need to have a lot of patience, let the custom do their duties, it will take time but it will surely get to you through the nearest post office to you, if there's a custom duty to pay, the bill will be attached to the item and nipost will collect the payment from you on customs behalf. Be patience so you don't mess things up. Talking from experience.

I think this all depends on who is handing it for you. There are smarter ways to boycott all those protocols and delays

If the items ship via USPS (as is the case of the OP) or through any other mailing services (Roayl Mail, China Post etc), there is no way around it, it would have to be routed through customs and NIPOST, except, of course, one pays for premium service (like EMS or it's equivalent from the country the items are coming from). If one ships through DHL, UPS or any other courier company, you will hardly get these kind of delays, but their are more expensive. Freight forwarders are cheaper (some as low as $5/lbs) and the transit time is better than using USPS, but you can't compare to the transit time of courier companies.
But, we learn everyday sha. Abeg, if you get the code to avoid all these kind wahala with customs and NIPOST people, hook a brother up.

The package should be delivered to you by Nipost and not to be with customs.

There are so many of them. You can send your package through them or you can order things online to their office then they will send it to you in Nigeria.

Make sure to call them before you order items to there office. They will give you necessary information on what to do.

It happens to last year April . You will pay x2 of the package you re expecting . Your cargo / shipment carrier re the one to take that money on behalf of custom .
This guy's re thief . FedEx this that to me but if you know anyone in custom the amount will be reduced or ask your carrier how can you pay less if not you will pay double of your package
